Miniaturised consoles have been something of a recent phenomenon, shrink down an 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit console, pack it with HDMI and some games and watch them sell like hot cakes. Which are, mini pancakes. Ahem. After the recent success of the SEGA Mega Drive Mini, and the Japan-only Game Gear Micro, Sega’s Yosuke Okunari told Japanese publication Famitsu those magic words.

Dreamcast Mini.

“The Game Gear Micro is only sold domestically in Japan," Yosuke Okunari told Famitsu (translation by SiliconEra). "When we do the next one, I feel like the project scope will be much bigger. We may go with a concept close to the Mega Drive Mini. If I have to say some names, it could be an SG-1000 Mini or a Dreamcast Mini."

The SG-1000 is Sega's first console from the early 1980s so the real mini dream here would be the Dreamcast Mini - Sega's final home console that first hit the scene in 1999. Imagine it now, proper HDMI support, packed with classics like Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Powerstone, Skies of Arcadia, and more. In fact the only real hurdle we can see is the size of each Dreamcast game - though if Sony could cram a bunch of PlayStation CD titles on its mini console then maybe it wont be that big of an issue.

Yosuke Okunari did note that a miniaturising the Dreamcast could mean that its release might be more than a year or two out. Even so, it'd be a dream come true.
