I don't actually think this is the case. There are a few rare individuals who go to extremes (4chan extremes like bomb threats against government agencies) but the vast majority know it's all about trolling. You would be surprised by what 4chan folks can come up with. A lot of people hate to give them credit just because they want to make themselves feel superior.

It's just a bunch of normal people coming together and abusing anonymity (or using it to its full).

Anyone f***ing sick of the term "trolling"? On the news it's trolls this trollers that. People in online games constantly saying troll, d*******s on QGL accusing anyone that disagrees of being a troll. People are so stupid, you get one idea in their heads, and they see everything in terms of that.
