Was meant to play golf today but it was raining so went to the movies and watched Inception. I don't know how Christopher Nolan came up with the idea, I am sure the drugs were good, but f*** me what an awesome film. Total head f***, but good nonetheless. EDIT: Just found this info on wiki... interesting he started this 10 years before it was released! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inception_(film) Development of Inception began roughly ten years before the film's actual release when Nolan wrote an 80-page treatment about dream-stealers.[7] After presenting the idea to Warner Bros. in 2001, he felt that he needed to have more experience with large scale films.[8] Therefore, Nolan opted to work on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He spent six months polishing up the film's script before Warner Bros. purchased it in February 2009.[8][9] Filming began in Tokyo on June 19, 2009 and finished in Canada in late November of the same year.[10][11] |

Yea I saw the midnight launch at Imax last night. Definitely a bit of a head f***, but the concept and execution was just simply amazing and a great choice of actors too IMO. I just got so involved in the story that I'm gonna go so far as to say its gotta be one of the best movies I've seen. |

Fantastic movie, definitely up there with the best movies I've seen. The execution of it was amazing, how it got so deep and nested with dreams inside dreams inside dreams and yet still remained so easy to follow. Definitely going to have to go see it again. |

Watched it yesterday. Definitely a very good movie. Easy to follow, good script. Excellent cast, kept introducing new people who were played by good actors. Ellen Page looked hot. Have a mate at work who hardly ever goes to movies to see whent hey come out. Told him to go see it on the big screen. |

Saw this last night and bloody loved it. Great acting from everyone (Joseph Gordon Levitt also rumored to be leading for the roll of riddler apparantly) and despite how complex the movie becomes its easy to keep track of what is happening where. First 10 min confused the f*** out of me but everything was tied up at the end except for the obvious last second thing but either way I thought it was a fantastic ending. This guy sure knows how to make his f***ing movies.

Yeah, Joseph Gordon Levitt is pretty awesome, saw him interviewed about Inception as well and he seems like a really nice, genuine sort of guy. Riddler is confirmed as (one of) the villain(s) for Batman 3, but hes still only listed as "interested" at this point. http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/07/20/excl-studio-casting-names-the-riddler-as-batman-3-villain/ |

I loved Hamish and Andy's take on this, essentially along the lines of:
So this movie is about what people dream about, yet in two hours not once do we see Charlize Theron naked? |

Was pretty awesome. Think it was a pretty decent mix of complexity without being too hard to follow. The audience's reaction to the last scene was gold. edit: agreed that no matter how good nolan movies are, they always have really bland music. But it seems to be a style choice or somesuch. |

Also, how dare you say music by Hans Zimmer is bland :( |

I really like his choice in musical score. Loved the movie thoroughly. I also really like how the trailers and such managed to keep the story somewhat unknown. I'll I knew about it going in was that it was about dreams, and that's about it. I went in there not really knowing what to expect, which made the experience that much better. What they did show in trailers, while still being exciting, didn't spoil a thing. Wonderful.

Yep I've discovered in the last few years that the less I know about a plot from trailers etc, the more I can enjoy it. Noticed with avatar for example, seeing the trailer only once and the entire plot was entirely revealed, start to finish. Ruined any chance I had of enjoying the movie. |

Bad thing is that last little bit was predictable. Spoiler: the GF and I were trying to guess afterwards if we had ever seen the real world or if it was all just a dream. Especially as Ellen Pages character asks that bit about who would want to be under for ten years. |

Saw it last night, thought it was great. Most movies of this nature are easy to pick holes in them but Inception covered most things really really well. The music, cinematography, acting, story, and fight scenes were all awesome. I was expecting some sort of huge twist at the end which never came, but it didn't bother me too much. The cutting out at the end was a bit annoying, but at least it has people discussing it :) Definitely want to watch it again sometime. |

The crazy part about the movie was when they finally took you back to reality. I got so pulled down into the dream the first time that I'd forgotten about the real life part on the plane.

Luving your mother softly, MuthaF. Predators was one of the s***test films ive seen all year (saw it with mates - regretably), was just a cliche' of the original... and the story line was so badly thought out - they know how to hunt the predator within the first 20 mins but they slowly all die off until the end then they use the knowledge they knew at the very beginning... this is one of the worst directed films ive seen. As for the cliche's they come thick and fast (i wont give examples as it will spoil the film even more), the idiot producer should have just made a remake it would have been better. Tell your mates if not to waste their money, i wish i hadnt. |

I downloaded Predators and I'm glad I did as I thought it was pretty crap. Inception I went to see at the cinema, but I think I'm alone when I say that I didn't overly enjoy it. Everyone had talked it up so much that I was expecting more than what I saw. The trailer already made suggestions on what it was about, and you found out specifically what it was about really early on in the movie. So the next two hours you were just watching the visual effects of what they'd already explained straight up. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, I think I was just expecting more. |

So the next two hours you were just watching the visual effects of what they'd already explained straight up. I think they did that so that people could keep up. I could say that if it wasn't explained well, I probably would have lost where I was. I downloaded a couple of the OST tracks off iTunes. So gorram epic. |

Saw it tonight, was pretty good. Not as much fantasy as I thought there would be.
Also it wasn't confusing or hard to follow like some people say. They tell you exactly what is going to happen, just as biatch said, and then it happens. There isn't really anything to spoil about the film either, not much in the way of twists or anything you'd expect from a movie like this - and in a way that was a relief. All the bits where they'd 'reveal' something were hinted at very strongly when they were first referred to. I think they left that thing about the real world being a dream open ended so s***kunts on forums that haven't got over that concept from a million movies/shows already would have something to argue about, but no it was not a dream, you can tell just by looking. |

I don't think the real world was a dream, but the bit at the end definitely was, he never woke up, he was still in limbo. But that aside, I've been having a more important argument with a friend about the architect chick's totem. Was it a bishop, a big pawn, or a knight? I totally can't remember. |

Looked like a long pawn to me. She made it herself so it doesn't necessarily have look like a standard chess piece, not sure though.
Anyway I watched that s*** last night and it was such a trip but so awwwwwwesome at the same time. Intensity in 10 cities! ! Will difnitlely have to watch again sometime to fill in some of the gaps. The end of the last scene was somewhat predictable but loved it nonetheless. Movie was so good it's even up there with toy story 3! last edited by MatchFixah at 10:17:56 29/Jul/10 |

It's just so overused in storytelling. Student films, popular tv shows, big budget films. I'm onto you motherf***ers.
It's meant to make the story sound more intelligent, but really chess is the least interesting reference they could be making. Chess is often seen as the game of the masses, like rugby league, it is the most primitive of the games of it's kind. Chess represents the basic concept of "man vs man", whereas other games like Backgammon are a struggle of man vs fate, or Go which is man vs himself, which are the more interesting themes dealt with in good stories.

If time is slower each level down, why is the music the same rate?
If the couple grew old in limbo, why are they young when the train hits them? |

They crafted their environment for themselves, it's a shared state, so they looked the way they wanted to, which was young. |

And they showed one guy looking like another guy for just a bit even though he looked like that throughout the entire dream.

Yeah, I stopped reading at this point when Cobb remembers her suicide she is, bizarrely, sitting on a ledge opposite the room they rented. You could do the logical gymnastics required to claim that Mal simply rented another room across the alleyway, but the more realistic notion here is that it's a dream, with the gap between the two lovers being a metaphorical one made literal. Thats an utterly retarded argument. HOW is his explanation the more realistic notion here, come on, hes just deluding himself. |

Interesting article though I think there's enough evidence on either side to make a strong argument.

Yeah, I stopped reading at this point I'd definitely recommend you read the rest, Khel. It draws some pretty good parallels between the events of the movie and the act of film-making. It's something I'd never considered, and if the interview he mentions with Leo is correct, it's certainly a strong argument he's making.. |

Midda, one thing that I thought that the review was going to go into was the fact that limbo was the fourth dream state. If, going by what that bloke was saying, that this is all a interpretation into the film-making dynamic, then the fourth (limbo) dream-state could be the fourth wall. By breaking the fourth wall you stop being involved in the movie and realise you are watching something false. Hence while you are *in* the fourth wall, you mistake it for reality, just as you do when totally drawn in by a movie. But when you finish the movie and the credits roll, (removing yourself from the fourth wall/limbo) the movie ends and you 'wake up'. Just like when Cobb trancends limbo and the movie practically finishes or starts to wind up. The wedding ring theory of the second post was pretty persuasive as well =P |

It would be nice to see a video of Nolan talking about exactly what happened, even if it does spoil it. I like having ideas on what happened but if they're way different to the majority than I think I wasn't paying enough attention or didn't fully understand what the f*** was going on.

I think I need to watch this film again but this time accepting it on face value that it's not all a dream, which unfortunately I thought that from very early on and it spoilt the film a little for me as several characters said lines to reinforce my suspicion that 'reality' was actually a dream, and eventually that Mal was right, he wasn't being persued he just needed to die to be back with his family.

Saw this last night, was pretty cool. But what's not to understand.. I mean you see the top start to wobble at the end like its about to fall over. When it spins in their dreams it doesn't wobble ever. Hence it wasn't a dream but it wasn't a dream because he's the one thats dead - His reality is actually limbo which is the afterlife.
The whole story is him trying to comeback from limbo but when he realises he can't he projects a reality inside limbo. also, that young main actress in the movie can be in my dreams anytime.. amiwrong? last edited by arclore at 11:41:38 09/Aug/10 |

Finally saw it last night. Excellent movie however was nowhere near as much of a mindf*** as I had hoped. Based on other peoples reviews I was expecting a plot that jumped around a lot more. The fact that it's dreams within dreams doesnt make the story progression any less linear.
Not that I have a problem with that, I was just hoping for max confusion on my first viewing. One thing I did especially love was the way the projections react to the dreamers.. the way they all look at them with that expression is quite creepy. Overall a superbly made film across all areas, just not quite the headf*** I was hoping for. |

Except the bit with the buildings isn't Cobb's dream, thats limbo Not necessarily. It could be very close to limbo, but they were in control. They entered the dream willingly. Limbo was (kinda) defined as something that the level above couldn't control (death). My reasoning is that Cobb somewhere along the line after Ariadne and Fischer kick themselves out of Cobb's dream, Cobb himself dies or kills himself to enter full shared limbo, thus meeting up with Saito many years later after he died in the snow fortress. Cobb's dream was his own architecture as well, remembering that whoever dreams creates the dream world. But, when he meets Saito, it's more like Saito's world, having been pre populated for many "years" with his subconscious. The other thing you can't prove with the way the ending is shot, is how they get out. My reasoning for them coming out via the sedative wearing off is that if they shot themselves to exit limbo (which they state is not possible early on in the movie), they are never shown (as opposed to the others) transcending the dream levels back to reality The rest of them all get back to the hotel, then back to the river from the van. The bit that is missing is how *all* of them woke up to reality. I say that the sedative wore off, ending *all* of their dreams. |

I'm pretty sure they actually say in the movie though, that they have to go into limbo, because thats where Fischer is. Fischer died, got chucked into limbo, they had to go in and get him. And the buildings that are there are the remnants of what Cobb left in limbo last time he was there. Sure they can control it, but everyone can control it, its a shared state. |

I also don't think limbo has anything to do with death here. I mean, cobb and mal had been there before and they weren't dead. Its just an unstructured dream-state, that no one person is in control of. I can't think of any part of the movie where they liken limbo to death or even make that implication. I also think when they say its a shared state, they don't mean some kind of metaphysical thing, like its shared amongst all humanity and everyone is connected through their dreams, I think it just means its shared between all participants of the dream, like nobody is specifically dreaming it and anyone can control it. |

Well, not so much the control the dream, but control their presence in it. Because Cobb and Ariadne aren't dead in the snow fortress, they are able to kick themselves out, Cobb as well, but he doesn't because he needs to enter true limbo to get to Saito. Fischer really is a bit of a messy one. He's definitely in Cobb's "dream" or almost-limbo, but there is a clear difference between Cobb's final level of dreaming with Ariadne and Fischer before it all changes and he enters limbo as prepopulated by Saito. Limbo is also something that the dreamer couldn't get out of until they could actually wake up physically, so that's my explanation of why Cobb's architected dream is not actually limbo, but an almost-limbo. |

I did a full explanation of my idea of it. Who knows really, there are a few gray areas that are open to debate really so I guess only Nolan really knows. http://www.nickbedford.com/post/926712812/my-interpretation-of-the-inception-timeline EDIT: Mine is actually a lot like that triangle shaped timeline. |

Saw this movie last night, thought it was very good. Recommend. The main hole in the movie for me was the fact that they required physical objects (e.g., the briefcase with pumps and what not) in each level. |

I didn't find that to be a hole, it's more representative of the thought process and what it represents. ie they use guns as well, it's just an object that has a common meaning and understanding to all those in the dream.

Sounds like a tops movie. I saw an indie movie called primer about a week ago, it was made in 2004 on a budget of like $7000 by some engineering student, really well thought out and a bit of a mindf***, haven't seen inception but it sounds like its a bit crazy so if you enjoyed this movie theoretically you'll enjoy primer. Its a bit old right now so I wouldn't be surprised if you saw it on youtube, maybe even if you typed in 'primer part 1' someone might have been kind enough to upload it several parts.. who knows though.

Inception made more sense in the movie than those crazy infographs, much easier than primer. Though primer was also awesome just for how real the characters' actions and responses were. |
