Not very good news for the slim...

Hackers dissecting the Xbox 360 “Slim” report a disturbing discovery – internal parts thought to be associated with RRoD failures remain unchanged, causing some to speculate that the new model may have the same problems which plagued older revisions.

from Sankaku so NSFW link. Doesn't seem like they RROD rate will go down with these new consoles. Might as well get the JB deal.

Except the CPU/GPU is now smaller, so it'll run cooler. Plus there's a bigger fan.

But they're under just one heatsink/fan instead of two. I thought the fault was because the clamp under the HS/Fan was to blame. If its the same style without any revisions then it's going to get hot too. Though i doubt microsoft would really do that. I'd assume it more likely that its scaremongering for more attention on website hits. The last thing microsoft needs is a failure rate causing them more bad press.

If you can afford the slim get it instead. If you are wanting to only spend $250 get the elite deal.

Also the new system destroys discs if you ever happen to move the console while it's running. Now people would say "lawl why the f*** move it while it's on you idiot" But what happens if the misses tries to clean under it 1 day while it's on? Then who's the idiot? You can kiss whatever game is in the tray goodbye.

Who's the idiot? Your misses for not knowing to not move it and you for not telling her.

I for one wouldn't let my misses clean around my TV and stuff while they were on.

Pretty sure any console would destroy a disc if you moved it while it was reading the disc. And they often have big warnings on them to that effect. I'd imagine even a dvd player would destroy a disc if you moved it around while it was reading a disc. It just seems like a bad thing to do full stop.

Years back I dropped a portable CD player while it was playing and apart from cracking the shell of the device, it didn't harm the disc in any way. We should go back in time and find out what ancient technology was used to keep the CD safe.

Hardly as blatantly as that demo video did. There was not much movement in my opinion, no so much that you would think it would gouge a groove in your DVD.

maybe it was the magical technology that made it "portable" it's a console you f***tard not a discman, try doing the same with the dvd or blue ray player sitting under your TV and see how well that fares

All they need to do is put a foam rubber spacer in the drive above the disc spindle. This stops the disc tipping at an angle.

How often are people really moving around optical media drives while they're in use? Why would you do that?

Well you only need to do it once for it to be a problem?
Someone bumps it, trips on a cord, etc.

The foam spacer would've cost Microsoft 15 cents more according to one review I watched / read (I forget where exactly) so they didn't bother.

I am an good xbox fanboy and have 4 Xbox 360 which ever versions they released. So I was playing Call of duty modern warfare 2 for 1 hour then suddenly started to show this lines on my screen. Oops Microsoft making an 2 in 1 chip wasen't an good idea basically microsoft built GPU and CPU in one chip and suddenly started to overheat. I aren't bragging but I want to show the consumers that Microsoft still aven't fix the problem of overheating and no need to upgrade.

probably pretty unlucky but there is no way they can guarantee there still wont be any issues, like there is with any hardware.

I waked into a Game store the other day and asked the manager about the new console and he said not to buy one is I already have an old xbox 360 as they're basically the same. The next day I overheard him being lectured by the area manager for not being better with sales... poor guy.

So you were advised not to buy the slim on one day, then the next day you walked into the same store and you just happen to overhear a conversation between the managers about an event that happened yesterday concerning you?

Far fetched story is far fetched.

Lol, stranger things have happened. Like the story in the news about those mining execs who were in a plane crash right at the same time as the governments trying to implement its mining tax. Government conspiracy? :-P
Now that's far fetched!

But the area manager wasn't talking about me as he wasn't in there on the first day I went in. I'm guessing he was talking about the general lack of sales from the store.

...you didn't hear about the original Xbox do the same thing?... the originals were just as bad for 'chewing' on discs if the console was bumped or moved while running...

... again correct me if I'm wrong.... but isn't a j-tagged console modified? thus voiding any MS warranty?

also i was going through ebay last night and saw most of the wireless recievers going for $65 with $10 postage (new).

Yeah i just noticed a few there even going for as low as $52 with $4 postage. They're the single antenna ones though. I'd go for the double antennas for an extra $10-$15 as apparently they pick up the signal better.

MatchFixah...

The Dual antennae wireless adapters are Draught N, so you'll also get better performance from it (only really useful if you plan on streaming HD content to it... I think G would more than suffice for online gaming and XBLA downloading etc)

Have they finally given us a seperate optical out port yet? im so sick of having to have those big ass cables jammed in with the hdmi cable just so i can have 5.1. Also, it looks like the hdmi/video port is the exact same position as normal xbox, such a f***ing s***ty design.

Oh right i see. I'd prolly just pay the difference anyway. Either way they've dropped in price (from something ridiculous like $150).

Well they can't really, it needs to be a standard platform so developers can develop for it knowing its limitations. You bring out a new version of the 360 with more grunt, and developers then develop for that, and then you have games coming out that wont run on the vast majority of XBox 360's already out there.

I work at JB and i say wait for the new one, its release is closer than you think :)

The price will be similar to the $400 mark or so, as far as i know.

Though, if your not interested in the new gadgets and just want to game, its a smashing deal.
