Another FIFA World Cup, another quadrennial cash-in opportunity for EA Sports. Coming to all the usual platforms, 2010 FIFA World Cup will bring you all the hot football action of the recent FIFA 10 with world-cup trimmings such as "confetti rain, streamers, & fireworks".
For the first time ever in a videogame compete in a full and authentic online World Cup tournament. Carry the hopes and dreams of a nation into battle against fans from rival countries, from the group stage through the knockout rounds to the chance to be crowned 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa champion. For fans of nations that failed to qualify for South Africa this is the chance to replay and re-write history. Plus, gameplay innovations capture the journey from qualification to the final tournament with home and away strategies for every nation, situational tactics in-game, and altitude effects that fatigue players faster and even impact the flight of the ball.

Such a money grab, they've already released FIFA10. In it you can play as the national teams.

Granted you won't go on to win the 'world cup' but I am sure I'll survive

Yeah just create a custom league and only include international teams.

There's your world cup.

Interested to see what gameplay improvements it has over Fifa 10 (if any). I remember Euro 2008 was significantly different to FIFA 08 (which was the last EA soccer title before it), and contained alot of gameplay additions which were incorporated into FIFA 09

So hoping this title hints at what it is to come in Fifa 11

saw this today at GDC. There's a few improvements; they've fixed a few things (apparently there's a problem in FIFA 10 where you can easily chip the goalie?). Nothing really standout though; it's really hard to get excited about this game knowing it's such a blatant cash in.

I asked them one question about this - are they going to kill the online next year like they did with Madden and all those other games?

The guy had no idea what I was talking about (obviously not everyone that works on EA titles hears about things like that, I guess). I explained and he said as long as they have people playing, they'll have servers. Apparently FIFA is their most popular online sporting title with 30 million games a month (that is actually what he said but it seems amazingly high, that is one million games a day!) and I definitely got the impression that these guys believe that it'll always be supported - not axed a year later.

Over 41 000 games per hour? I somehow doubt that.
Maybe he meant per year...
