Well you were wrong. It got best movie. I know it did, hence me using past tense. I was stating an opinion of an event :) Personally I thought it was just another solid war movie, it didn't stand out as being omg awesome. I enjoyed District 9, Up, and Inglourious Basterds more than it. Saint - what other films released this year would rival it? You're probably right, there wasn't alot of decent movies released last year. The others I mentioned were equally as good but I can see different types of people not liking different parts of those movies whereas Hurt Locker is fairly solid from all aspects. |

Sorry to go off topic but.... what the f*** was with Sandra Bullocks speech? Does knowone ever tell these actors/actresses they are full of s***. She is standing up there talking about a classless society while she collects millions of dollars a movie. What a crock of s***.

The Academy Awards has officially bottomed out when a B-grade actress and B-grade actor win the Oscar.

I played golf today with my mate who hadn't seen the Hurt Locker so we went after golf. I haven't been to the cinema in fkn ages... $17 a ticket WTF!! But yeah I had already seen this movie twice, but went along for the big screen experience, f*** me the sound was awesome!! Nothing beats seeing a kick ass movie at the cinema (even if it costs ~$25 by the time I got an ice cream and a bottle of water) |

The hurt locker won some Oscar for sound. Unfortunately I only heard it through my crappy TV speakers. Need to look into a home theatre setup - but that's another thread.

Yeah but he hit the wall of the building 2-3 times. Even if they were in the window at that time, he still would have missed. Heh I liked that scene, reminded me of the original Delta Force game, where to pick off guys from a kay or two away if you were a newb you'd need to fire off a few shots first to get a feel for how much the bullet will drop due to the distance and how much it will go left/right due to the wind. Once you got the hang of it you could hit moving targets even though you'd have to put the crosshair nowhere near where the target is (alternatively you could just adjust the scope). The kid in the building obviously wasn't as newb as the US snipers as he was nailing every shot. last edited by Habib at 00:18:52 09/Mar/10 |

What had me f***ed in that scene was why they didn't reposition? the whole time I was watching it I was screaming at the tv "f***ing move to another spot!!" until I got clipped across the ears for ruining it. |

Awesome movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
edit: the whole theme of the movie was the main character's addiction to the thrill of detonating bombs and the other high stress situations associated with that job. basically every scene demonstrates his recklessness and yearning for higher impact engagements. the bit at the end... well he looked just like a caged bird. i don't know if he was like that before joining the army or if the army did it to him. last edited by infi at 16:21:07 09/Mar/10 |

basically every scene demonstrates his recklessness and yearning for higher impact engagements. I felt sorry for the other blokes he was working with that pretty much thought this cowboy dude was going to get them killed. Obviously it's a fictionalised story as real bomb defusing from all reports is days/weeks of boredom punctuated by absolute terror. I'm envisaging Hurt Locker portrayed defusal careers kinda like the movie Swordfish portrays IT jobs. |

hurt locker was good but I think if James Cameron's name had been the directing credit on district 9 it would have clean swept the field. Hollywood bias imo.

Hurt Locker was good but it wasn't great. By the end I was hanging for it to finish because it was starting to drag. Same with Basterds.

I don't understand how people can praise Inglorious basterds as a fantastic movie, sure it had some great moments, the start was great, and the end was great, but wedged in the middle there was bulls*** I didn't really give a f*** about and didn't want to see. I don't care about the nazi who's a movie star, I don't care about the cinema owner and her black bit of manf***, give me more of brad pitts guys killing nazis, or more jew hunter hunting jews, thats what I'm there to see. When brad pitt or the jew hunting nazi guy were onscreen doing their thing, the movie was great, when they weren't, it was drivel.
Hurt locker was good, but yeah, I dunno about best movie good. I'd put District 9 above anything else nominated for best movie without a second thought. |

Yeah sure, who isn't, but I like a dramatic dialogue driven movie, its just most of the characters in the middle of that movie weren't really very interesting, and I didn't really give a s*** about them, yet the movie spent sooooooooooo long on them. After introducing us to all these great, interesting characters in the first part of the movie, it then proceeds to serve up an hour of completely boring characters who are doing nothing interesting at all. I dunno, tarantino is a bit hit and miss for me in general, sometimes he turns out stuff that I love, sometimes he seems to get a bit caught up in being an artistic wanker and (imo) the movie ends up suffering for it.

So it had no character progression and the story wasn't anything close to an epic tale...
But even so, every scene in this movie had meaning behind it and was executed pretty flawlessly. Good to watch if you're, as khel put so neatly, an 'artistic wanker' |

I saw The Sting.
I was amazed at how such an old movie can be so awesome. The acting, the story, the characters, the twists. All amazing and well a head of it's time. |

Ive found the standard of acting is better in older movies.
I really believe it is because Actors in the past had to learn their craft from performing on stage whereas now it is just failed models that become actors. |

some of the wtfs, i observed in the hurt locker:
the bit with the taxi, wtf? the whole sniping scene, wtf? the bit with the kid, did he have a bomb inside of him? wtf? the bit where they go to investigate a bomb blast, and randomly decide to run off into the nite to shoot the bad guys, wtf? the scene where they got drunk and punched each other, wtf? a hurt locker, wtfit? a substantial non wtf, was that the doc was going to get blown up by the dude with the donkey and the cart, everyone could see that coming from a million miles away i really find it hard to believe that this was the best moofie made this year; avatar shat all over it, i dont care that we've seen the story before, it was a fanciful retelling of pochahontas, with awesome visuals and a beating heart last edited by Spook at 14:43:08 22/Mar/10 |

secondly, hajis and their bombs... wtf One reason is because they have so much old surplus. They have nothing to fire them with because the rocket/Mortar tubes are all busted and used up, so they make improvised explosives instead. |
