Armed Assault and Operation Flashpoint developer Bhoemia Interactive have released a PC for ArmA 2, the newest addition to their acclaimed line-up of realism-geared combat-sims.
Featuring the most realistic warfare gameplay ever, ArmA II promises to build on the excellent features that have made Bohemia Interactive a respected name amongst both gamers and the US army, who use a modified version to train recruits for combat situations. Team-based combat, a comprehensive playbook of military tactics and an enormous battlefield to explore are just some of the features that will make this the military simulation of choice this year.

ArmA 2 demo allows you to experience the unique gameplay featured in the full version of ArmA 2 including multiplayer, as well as samples of the vast amount of vehicles, weapons and units and realistic environment. The demo also contains a part of Chernarus terrain.
You can nab the 3GB sampler, right here from AusGamers files.

ArmA 2 is available now from Steam and due for an Aussie retail release on August 20, exclusively for PC.

There's so many new army sim games out recently (Arma 2, AA3, Op Flashpoint 2 soon I believe?).

I've never really played much of either, but I will definitely give a few of them a go to see if they are any good (having played BF2 etc).

And yet, what of multiplayer?! Anyone know if the demo has multiplayer?

You've missed the point of the game martz. Gonna give this demo a whirl, i'm still actively playing Arma 1 so it would be nice to know weather its worth getting at the moment, or to wait until they've fixed alot of the bugs that it no doubt comes with.

If it's like Op Flashpoint minus the bugs it will be awesome.

There's a detailed description on the download page too.
It's possible to play a multiplayer battle or customize some of the available mission templates.

To start the template-based multiplayer, select "<>" and select from the list of available templates. Note that templates are customizable, and you may prepare many variations of existing setups.

Death Valley - Multiplayer version of the scenario. Up to 16 players may take part in this battle. In "Create game"¯,
Multiplayer Mission Template: Deathmatch - Free-for-all fight for up to 16 players.
Multiplayer Mission Template: Team Deathmatch - Two teams fight in a small area. Up to 16 players may play in this scenario.
Multiplayer Mission Template: Seize The Area - Cooperative scenario for up to 6 players, whose task is to eliminate all hostile units in a designated area.
No idea if you can run dedi servers with it though.

Coop custom missions in operation flashpoint were some of the most fun times i've had with gaming.

I just finished playing it. Pretty impressed, they appear to have polished it a bit more compared to the release of ArmA1. I still came across a few bugs though but that's to be expected.

Been playing the full version (german digital dl) and loving it. It's much improved since ARMA1 and have not had any crashes or anything.

Demo has multiplayer, Arma 2 is way better then Arma 1. A few bugs, but still an awesome game. Can't wait to get the full version.

Definite improvement on ArmA, more stable. Still had the 'No message received for...' message and I had to quit.

Pity they released the demo with such ordinary missions though. Still, have bought, waiting for order to arrive.

Loaded Demo over the weekend. Game play as expected with some enhanced graphics! For the clans out there who enjoy co operative play no doubt new missions to enjoy! I will be waiting with baited breath to run OFP 2 for a true decision on the two titiles!

No decision to be made, buying both regardless.

Yep, it's a very demanding game - wouldn't recommend for less than a decent gaming machine.

**Make sure if you pick up the game read this or at least browse it**

A lot of people in arma 2 hate it when people come in playing COD style instead of the spirit of the game, read through this and play cooperatively.

Heh, if you come in playing COD style, best of luck to ya. Rambo doesn't win at ArmA.

I've never seen anyone complain because someone's playing COD style. You simply cannot play ArmA like that - it's not possible.

Oh there's people, was playing the other day on Aircav and was in charge of the SF group, we infiltrated the town and set up shop in a convenience store to relay tactical info to the Main force boys, little did the guy i put on rear security realize rambo was following us, who ended up firing rounds next to our building wanting to get some sweet sweet kills for his own cause, which in turn created a 43min standoff between my team and an enemy company comprising of roughly 3 t-90's, 4 bmp3's, hind gunship and 3-4 sections of infantry.

Demanding but looks nice, anything below normal is too blurry to be really playable?

Motion blur when panning and head movement when crawling are a bit over the top, minor gripes though.

Turn off post-processing in advanced video options. Apparently in the full game patch 1.02 you can turn off only certain post effects, which is nice. Bloom is too overpowering, as is motion blur and depth of field. If my eyes were as bad as their depth of field, I would get my arse down to OPSM to get contacts!

Sorry to dig this back up but I received the full game yesty from cdwow and I am excited!

The coop mission on Gaming SA last night started on a carrier with a few UH-60s and an Osprey VTOL a/c. I was pilot, the Osprey is new, never flown it before, but I thought I would have a shot.

So I hopped in as pilot, 20 other dudes get in the back, and I start freaking out because I'm sure I'm about to get flamed when I kill em all on take-off, haha. I gave them fair warning.

Anyway, we managed to get to the mission target and we did a 20-man airdrop about 1km from the target. Some guy marked a point on the map and we all regrouped and assaulted the target.

One of the best multiplayer coop missions I've ever had. Not one Rambo on the server, everyone working together, moving slow. Was awesome.

Oh, and if you are thinking twice about buying - ArmA 2 smashes ArmA 1. It's really damn smooth and GFX improvement is phenomenal.

EDIT: Also, AG should mirror ArmA 2 patch 1.02
