There was no indication that he changed his mind. I would say it would be far more likely that the joker tricked him because he'd tried to do so on several occasions, ie the hostages wearing the clown masks and the clowns pretending to be the hostages etc. There would have been no point in batman changing his mind because he'd sent the cops to the other location.

What Khel said is how I saw it too, and it makes the most sense from a "let's fool the audience into thinking he's going to save Rachel but he's really going to pick the most unselfish path and save Dent" point of view/trick.

Yeah, I'd prefer to see Two-Face continue over, otherwise they're going to be forced to start introducing more and more crappy villains - and we really don't need to see Catwoman (seriously, how can you go from "blow-everything-up Joker to Jewelery thief Selina), Penguin (who was effectively just a smarter Carmine Falcone) , Riddler (who can't just kill people, he has to setup a bloody mouse-trap board) or (urgh) Mr Freeze in this darker style of movie.

It seems to me logical choices might be characters like Zeiss and Prometheus, but it just feels like any third installment would need to have more chaos and anarchy than Begins and TDK.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next film featured Catwoman, considering Lucius Fox's/Morgan Freeman's comment about the suit protecting against cats. Batman Begins had little references in it to people being two-faced and stuff like that, so it very well could have been a reference to Catwoman.

After seeing it a second time, when that moment comes he does look a bit shocked that dent is there lying on the floor. Not a whole lot but it's almost as if he didn't expect it. That and when he flys out of the room after the joker tells him, he yells to gordan that he is going after rachel, so gordan goes after dent. if he changed his mind half way through then they would of both reached the same place together.

Also I hope that dent isn't dead because two-face would be the best villian to have next movie, due to him being already set up. I'm sure they could find a way to make him not dead.

If they do bring Catwoman in, I hope they don't do some f***ing stupid "She died and was brought back to life by cats" story, just make her a really agile thief and be done with it.

I'd love to see nolan's take on the catwoman if they do another movie. After watching the brave one last night I could really picture her as a victim of a savage rape or beating, taking matters into her own hands and executing her own style of vigilante justice throughout gotham.

Killing criminals outright and actually cleaning up the city, gaining support from the citizens of Gotham while Batman is on the run and seen as the outcast. The underlying conflict inside bruce would be his temptation and seduction by the catwoman into that type of justice. Assuming he killed Two-Face, he would have gotten a taste of how easy it is to just eliminate a problem by killing them and the always present love story between batman and catwoman would be more of a seduction into her ethics than a sexual or traditional love story. I think batman as a character wasn't as developed in TDK and there's no way they could top the epicness of it in another movie, If they scaled it back, a more personal story of conflict within batman himself it would be the way to go.

Catwoman makes sense. Now that Rachel is out of the picture they'll need to fill the feminine void.

I think Killer Croc would be cool, but I'm not sure they could pull him off realistically.

Did anyone else find the growly voice that Christian Bale did as Batman a little over the top in this one? I dunno, I gotta see it a gain, cos it might have just been because we were right near a subwoofer where we were sitting in the Imax, but it seemed almost post-processed, it was so low and growly. And it also felt a bit out of place when he was using it to have normal conversations with people. Fair enough if you're trying to instill fear in someone and intimidate them, but when he was just having normal conversations with Gordon and stuff it seemed a bit out of place.

Yeah my friends and I were joking that he had a personal PA system built into the bat suit.

I loved the movie. Everything Nolan does is GOLD!

It was a long movie but it didn't feel long (unlike Spiderman 3). There was just so much story that it kept you entertained.

I thought Heath's Joker was perfect in what i see the Joker should be.

I also really enjoyed Aaron Eckhart's performance. I can't remember but i think there was one part when he screamed "Say it!" and the whole cinema jumped.

Gary Oldman was fantastic in his role too. As was Michael Caine.

Will be certainly interesting to see what they do with the next one.

I reckon Jim Carrey wouldn't be a bad choice for the Riddler again, he just needs the right director. He's shown that he can pull off darker, more serious rolls before so I can't see why that'd be any different in this instance. The biggest problem is by playing the Riddler before in that steaming pile of crap, he's kinda shot himself in the foot. I'd actually like the see the Riddler turn up in the next movie but wouldn't care if he didn't.

Yeah he could pull it off under nolan I reckon, but nolan would need a huge set of balls and pull with WB to cast him twice.

Also I like the riddler, but I feel he's too similar to the joker in many ways, unless of course he arises as a sort of copycat of the joker, only worse.

But can you imagine the praise he would get if he could pull off the same character in two different movies completely differently? In both the very dark style, and very comedy style?

Totally agree, I thought that the triggers were going to blow their own ships up.

I thought the triggers were going to blow up something else entirely, like they'd use their trigger thinking they were saving themselves, and it'd blow up a road or a building or something in the city and kill people who had nothing to do with it.

I was really dissapointed with the boat scene, I REALLY wanted some death and destruction... the movie had a dark feeling going and the joker was getting away with lots of killing.

I really didn't like the boat scene at the end. Something should have blown up instead of doing the whole cliched thing with the civilians wanting the prisoners dead and then the prisoner dude throwing the trigger thingy out the window. Yeah, I was wondering about that. My interpretation is that the Joker wanted Dent alive, knew Batman would go after Rachael and switched the addresses. So gave Batman Dent's address and told him that's where Rachael was.

it was the tv presenter. he was doing a news cast at the gotham hospital that the joker blew up. the joker got into the same bus as him.

so now that the dust has settled, what is the verdict? 10/10? best picture oscar?

Riddler might work if they made it similar to a Jigsaw type character from the Saw movies(except not gay like in the Saw movies).

I just got back from seeing it a second time and Ledger's performance is historic.

If anyone could make the Riddler awesome beyond belief it would be Nolan. Also i'd be willing to be Heath will get some form of award for this. Also going to see this a 3rd time next week with friends. I've never seen a movie twice, much less 3 times in the cinemas. Not forgetting this movie has already made what? 198 million, broken 9 box office records including highest 1 day take in which was around 68 million. incredible

This is still selling out sessions.. 7:20 and 8:40 session at garbo last night were sold out..dont think anything has been this crazy for a long time..

If you have the opportunity, go see it on IMAX as several of the scenes in the movie where filmed with an IMAX camera and look pretty kick ass.

there's no where to see it in true IMAX in Brisbane, the IMAX screen at southbank is just that, an iIMAX screen, the movie itself is projected by a standard movie projector

I wasn't aware Melbourne had an IMAX Cinema. I thought Sydney was the only city in Australia like it was a long time before Brisbane got one (until it was shut down). Melbourne having one would make sense though.

Batman star Christian Bale's arrest over an alleged assault on his mother and sister may have been linked to grief over the loss of his friend Heath Ledger.

Sources told Britain's Daily Mail that Bale had been deeply affected by the Australian actor's death from an accidental overdose, and that Ledger's loss had affected Bale's ability to communicate with those around him.

Bale, who plays Batman in The Dark Knight, was arrested and bailed over the alleged assault on Tuesday, after he spent four hours at a London police station.

Bale lost his temper in a London hotel room after his mother allegedly insulted his wife, the Mail report said.

Bale and Ledger, who plays a maniacal Joker in the latest Batman flick, became mates when they both played Bob Dylan in the 2007 movie I'm Not There.

An unnamed friend told the Mail: "Christian pretends he's calm and collected but you really started to see the cracks in his facade in January, right after Heath Ledger had died.

"Christian was in the middle of a very brief break from work when he heard the news, and it was massive blow to him.

"They had become very close during the making of The Dark Knight and Christian went into virtual hiding for the six weeks after Heath was found dead.

"He wasn't returning phone calls and he wasn't a happy man.

"It's foolish to think that he's been able to completely shake off that grief just as Heath and his work is finally being seen by audiences.

"He expected to share this moment with his friend, and now he can't."

I thought Batman wanted to save Dent instead of Rachael for the "greater good" of Gotham City.. Batman didn't know Dent was going to get his face burnt and turn into a psychopath.. Batman was extremely committed to Dent as a DA cause I remember Batman saying that Dent put away like 500+ criminals away in one hit or somes*** and risked everything on the line to blow his cover and go to prison so joker would stop killing and Dent to continue his work.

So maybe it was just a "twist" that they implemented into the movie.

A few things that killed my 9/10 rating, Batmans voice, the motorbike back flipping bulls*** and the coin tossing thing gold old real fast.. So I 'll give it a 8/10..

But boy what a show Heath put on, the most authentic villian I have ever seen on screen..

Saw this again this afternoon for the 2nd time, watching it again it really seems like they've set up Mr Reese as a possible Riddler in the future.

Also one bit I found puzzling, when the judge and the commissioner are being killed, at the same time Bruce Wayne grabs Harvey Dent and hides him away from the Joker who's about to turn up during his fundraiser party. How the hell does he know that they're coming? this was before they actually show up as it's during the party while Rachel is talking to Harvey.

Wasn't it because the card had Harvey's DNA on it, indicating he was one of the next victims? The way I remember it, after he found that out, he hid him because he knew the Joker was coming to get him.

That was Jim Gordon who discovered the DNA on the card, who was miles away from that party and would have no reason to communicate that info to Bruce Wayne

It's the same voice from the first movie so it shouldn't be a surprise, the motorbike back flip was totally suck and reminded me of the earlier sucky batmans but the coin tossing thing is, well, Two Faces "thing".

My favourite thing about Batman is his super hero catch phrase, "I'm Batman". It's not preachy like other super hero catch phrases.

Why does Batman speak in that deep voice when talking to Morgan Freeman's character when he knows he's Bruce?

Exactly, reload - when Wayne puts on the Batsuit he *becomes* the alter-ego, which includes the voice. So he's not about to change his voice merely because Alfred knows his identity. It's Batman talking to Fox, not Wayne.

I thought Heath Ledger was a pretty average actor and largely overrated untill I saw this movie tonight. He blew me away. I found my self relishing every moment he spent on screen, and when he wasn't on screen I couldn't wait to see him on there again. 10/10 on his part.

I like how tussles with insignificant grunts was reduced to blurry swipes and single hits. We already established that he's an uber ninja in the first movie, we don't need a full blown Jackie Chan movie every time Batman takes down a cutpurse.

I found Bale's voice while he was in the batsuit to be a little over the top, but I guess you can just pass it off as him trying to protect his secret identity.

Now I'm just really pissed that Ledger is dead. Everything was totally set up for a third batman with Joker as a baddie, along with Harley Quinn as his sidekick and Twoface as an ally.

Disappearing pencil trick was the best part of the movie.

Nah, I agree with Zaphod - when he dons the cowl, he IS Batman, and that doesn't change until it comes off.

I am still digesting this movie and want to see it again before I draw a verdict. It was great, but I'd built it up so much mentally (despite avoiding trailers etc) that I think some disappointment was inevitable.

One thing that bugged me was that there was so much of Batman being visible by heaps of people in full bright light. This strikes me as being at odds with some of the comic stuff, where the whole point of him is to stay in the shadows and be seen by as few people as possible - like, why he only really ever talks to Gordon.

There were two scenes in particular - when he's interviewing the Joker in the room in full view of all the cops with all the lights on (like, surely it'd be more like him to have the lights off and try and use the darkness to freak out Joker, probably with no effect, but still..) and the second was at the party where he pops up in front of all the society types - I reckon the comic Bats would have taken out the lights first.

Overall though, considering the liquid s*** that is oozing out of Hollywood these days, it was awesome.

i think the deal with him appearing in bright light trog was to highlight the urgency of the matter at hand ie. rachel and more so harvey dent.

i also found myself loving every second that the joker was on the screen, you couldn't even tell it was heath ledger for one second. unlike tom cruise who you can always see past any character he plays.

i also found myself almost in tears when commisioner gordon dies, for the shear fact if there is (pray to f***ing god) a next one he is obviously one of the key roles. i was totally blown away that two face dies i thought he would play a bigger part as a villian maybe in the next movie, i thought they left the 'mr reece' bit open for the next one which as someone said before mr reece aka mysteries. although bruce saves him and gives him the nod so who knows

Movie was freaking epic...as much as I would have liked to have seen more Joker I think it made me cherish the moments he was on screen even more.

Saw the movie last night, then walking the 82kms to my car at Balmoral I was walking really close to a bush when a massive bat flew out about 1 metre in front of me. I almost creamed my pants with excitement.

I feel sorry for whatever actor gets the part of the Joker in any upcoming movies (if they give it to anyone). Regardless of how well they do it, even if their performance matches or exceeds that of Ledger, they'll catch s*** for it.

I VERY much doubt they would ever get another actor to play the Joker in any future movies in this re-image. They would cop too much flack. Plenty of other villians to use.

Check out Batman: Gotham Knight. It was released this month as a direct to DVD gig much in the same vein as the animatrix. Four japaneese studios each creating a separate yet continuous story arc set between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I caught it in a Dendy two weeks ago and enjoyed it.

July 29, 2008 Warner . devoted six months to an extensive anti-piracy strategy for the release of "The Dark Knight", and have deemed the 38 hour period between the film's premiere screening and the first appearance on file-sharing sites to be a success - keeping bootleg DVDs off the streets as the film racked up a record-breaking US$158.4 million on its all important opening weekend.

Given that 2003’s Hulk found its way online two weeks before the film’s theatrical release and The Dark Knight’s target audience of superhero fans is the same group that are (probably) responsible for the bulk of illegal file sharing that goes on, the 38 hour figure starts to sound a little more impressive.

So what high-tech method did Warner Bros. employ to delay the pirates? Seems like a little extra vigilance was all that was required - but when there are so many steps in the film production and distribution process, a little extra vigilance can be a complicated process.

Warner created a “chain of custody”, just like police do with evidence, to ensure that those who had access to the film at any moment could be tracked. They also staggered the delivery of film reels so that multiplexes wouldn’t receive the entire film in one shipment, while hundreds of spot checks of cinemas around the world were carried out to check for illegal camcording.

Probably the highest tech used in the process was the night-vision goggles given to exhibitors in Australia, where the film opened two days before its US launch, to scan the audience for the infrared signal of a . Such steps are now commonplace amongst the major studios as they attempt to maximize the revenue from the investment, but any anti piracy steps simply stave off the inevitable.

Pirated copies of “The Dark Knight" appeared on a pirate site by Friday night, two days after its Australian premiere, said Mark Ishikawa, chief executive of BayTSP Inc., a Los Gatos California firm that does online tracking of copyrighted works. By Sunday, it could be downloaded on BitTorrent file-sharing sites or viewed on YouTubeYouTube , he said.

That's becoming pretty common now. We got Transformers and (I think) the last two Pirates movies before the US too, along with others that I can't remember. It's really just because we're ~17 hours or so ahead of the USA.

They had Wednesday daytime sessions. I personally saw it at 17:20.

I heard through the grapevine that they pulled the date forward by a day to make better use of the school holidays.

It played on Monday the 14th at Indooroopilly, but I think you had to be invited or some s***. They were giving away tickets for it on the radio that morning.

And yet we still have to wait months and months for other movies, such as Wall-e. f***ing BS.

I just dont like penguin in this kinda batman, I just dont see it as a realistic character..I'm sure if they did it and philip seymour hoffman were to do it, it would be good..but yeah..Little contradictory there but..hmm...

I saw this again on the weekend, and I was paying very close attention to the whole 'did the Joker swap the addresses' thing, and it's incredibly clear now that yes, the Joker swapped the addresses.

I was listening to the addresses that the Joker gives, and the one that he says Dent is in (255 something street) is the address that Gordon tells everyone to follow him to, which leaves Batman going to the other one.

It makes sense, considering the Joker's plan to break Dent down into becoming a villain. He obviously wouldn't want him to die, and he knew Batman would go after Rachael, because he makes the comment about him throwing himself out the window to save her at the party.

On June 24, 2008, in a interview with Ed Boon, he confirmed that all of the MK characters and DC villains will have fatalities, while DC heroes will have brutalities, which will function similarly to fatalities, except without killing the opponent.

The joker fatality would have been better if it involved a pencil.

And I was just watching Memento and I reckon Guy Pierce will be in the next movie.
