Guess Obes won't be playing Warhammer Online, Spore or Mirror's Edge then.

Nah won't be playing Warhammer. Boba's been talking it up for ages. All I see is a s***ty rehashing of an old engine in overdone genre.
Spore looks pretty gay (0 interest in it)
And Mirror's edge ? ... I hadn't even heard of it until someone I had never heard of was writing the story line somehow made news on this site.

ps. I doubt any of those games will take 12 month to be released here.

I think Rock Band now is the Duke Nukem Forever of the "Released, but not in Australia yet" genre

I doubt any of those will need a few hundred dollars worth of plastic instruments made to ship with them either. Not trying to excuse whoever's fault the distribution problems are, its obviously been f***ed up, but its their first foray into the fake plastic instrument scene.

Really though, why does it even matter if its not out here? If you wait for it to come out here and buy it you'll be getting ripped off anyway (goes for any game really, not just Rock Band). Import and save yourself pain and dollars.

It sounds like you might not understand how the news promotion thing we do occasionally works and that it scares and enrages you! ; let me know if you need it explained! We covered it way back when it was announced as well, just as an FYI.

Yeh, I can see being annoyed with buying it if/when it finally comes out in AU, but at least this way dollars are going to the game and bypassing the whole annoying Australia-gets-reamed part.

After looking into importing though, at least with the 360 its going to be about the same amount even if you bought it here. That is if you can even find a place that will ship the damn thing to you. The drum package is nearly impossible to find anywhere that ships to australia. Every site i've found says "cannot ship outside the US". I've been forced to look on ebay and would really prefer not to go that route. I just want the drums and the UK game, and already that seems to = around 300 via ebay T.T. Anyone know a site that will ship the drums? Not worried much about shipping.

EDIT - Also woo 666 posts

Trog, it doesn't scare or enrage me.

It annoys me that instead of being a "Australia's Gaming News" service where you put hard questions of interest to Aussie gamers to these companies. You will happily promote products that actively participate in "Australia-gets-reamed".
It's pretty easy, reviews need only include 2 extra fields
Rockband
Release schedule 0/10
Comparitive Price 2/10

It obviously annoys you that we get over charged and underserviced.

Oh yeh right, like anyone has ever listened to me when i've told them what would be best for them to do!! If they had maybe we'd all be playing games without gay online ranking systems that shipped standard with dedicated servers and great mod tools and thus heaps of awesome community-created content, just like we did back in the old days. /me sheds a tear.

I hardly see how me buying a game in the US that I actually want to play and bringing it back into the country is reaming Australia; if anything I'm reaming them even harder because they would have made 2x as much off me if I'd bought it in .au anyway. I'm with Khel on this one; I appreciate your point but the more money they have the more likely they're going to make more efforts next time.

Also, Steve and I asked everyone even remotely con-f***ing-ected to Rock Band where the f*** it was and why it wasn't here. They totally understand the situation, they totally realise its completely f***ed, and they're totally working their asses off to try and correct it. Whether that will actually happen is, of course, another story, but here's hoping.

Did anyone give any details about exactly what the problem is and what they're doing to fix it or was it just vague and possibly token hot air?

I've noticed you have tried to be as green as you can. Why do you try to be green ? Why do you try to conserve water ? .. I mean you're just one person how the f*** is that going to help.

If they are making a nice big fat juicy profit why would they change their practices ?

And I appreciate you asking the questions. Shame its not on the front page. Next to the playlist ...

(That said if it were me in the US, I'd be struggling to not buy the instrument kit ... )

Have to disagree with that point of view. I don't think it's as simple as a one person can't make a difference argument.

Not importing rock band isn't going to send a message to anyone.

If you import it, that just looks like a US or Euro sale to them and just adds to the game's sales figures, which if anything, can only help make it seem more worth their while to ship Rock Band or Rock Band 2 to our relatively minuscule market.

Also, not buying the game out of protest might impact the publishers bottom line, but it also affects Harmonix, who would have had zero control over whether EA/MTV released it in Australia or not.

There is still no official response. I got a couple of different explanations (note: none from anyone even remotely related to EA or Harmonix), the most reasonable of which was that the logistics of shipping the boxes around Australia and storing them were just too complicated to be dealt with easily due to the size/weight of the carton. This made it an all-new challenge and would have put the price up near the $450 mark, which probably would have incited riots if they'd tried to do that.

Its a successful franchise. They have control because EA can see the dollars.

And shipping is bolloks. If us as individuals can do it for less then that (if you can find someone willing to do it), then I am sure they can manage alot less then that with a few dozen containers on a ship.

Not importing rock band isn't going to send a message to anyone.

I agree... sort of ... except now trog might come back and say "Rockband is great" and as an offical AGN person that would certainly do nothing to discourage the piss poor effort that has been the Rockband release in Australia (whoever is to blame which aparently is no one ... maybe its the consumers...).
