Chub has to be the single best pusher on goldrush... as soon as he leaves the team just fails.
He also changes teams to keep it fair if it's stacked. so :P If I'm losing I just go all kamikaze ubersaw and f*** some c***s up :P |

Game from last night, the demo rape was massive (with a bit of help from Frakture :D)
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/285/demobo3.jpg Anyone else got any new screenshots? EDIT: Also valve the dirty knobs changed the 800x600 res so you can see the ping but I still get raided playing in 640x480 :( Damn friends icon. last edited by CHUB at 10:16:14 14/Jul/08 |

Why the hell do you play in such a low res...
Low res changes make barely any difference in performance, only until you start hitting really high res for huge screens. Unless you are trying to play on a GF4 maybe... |

Why the hell do you play in such a low res...P4, 512 ram, 8600GT. 640x480 all low, gives me nice smooth FPS. Anything above and it's not worth the tradeoff. |

Anyone else getting insane amounts of lag lately? Many people have been complaining about it in-game (node servers) while others are not having any problems.
I'm not able to snipe anymore because of it. Plus every time I walk past the truck on the left side outside the attacking team's spawn on one of the goldrush stages (the same stage that has the pit you can jump down to get at the enemy from another angle), I end up lagging for 5 seconds. |

P4, 512 ram, 8600GT.Get a jobbbbb. Hardware is at shockingly low prices. $1K gets a PC easily capable of running TF2 at near max settings. last edited by qmass at 11:42:01 14/Jul/08 |

on the ga servers i get lag between stages and when the teams are swapped. The Connection Problem red text in the upper right hand corner for 1-2 seconds? Has it only been happening in the last 10 days or so? |

Valve claimed to have fixed that the other day, and I haven't gotten it since they said that. No lag or anything.
Also chub, You wouldn't have even broken 100 without me. I just wish I was there for the first 2 rounds so I would've had a better score :P |

f***in hell chub 640x480 come on man.
i spent like 900 bux on my new system and i can run everything on max detail at 2048x1536 and get constant 60fps. |

geeze chub, $250 and you can get a P5KC + E8400 + 1gb Ram, overclock to 3.6ghz for 1 degree temp rise... use ur 8600GT (u cheap bastard) and bam...

overclock to 3.6ghz Why would you bother overclocking a modern Intel CPU if you're just playing games? For video editing or code-compiling I can understand, but for regular use? I've got an E6600 from 18 months ago and haven't had any desire for a faster CPU. I actually prefer the extra stability and not wasting time running Prime and/or Memtest to test overclock stability. |

Why would you bother overclocking a modern Intel CPU if you're just playing games? why not? an extra 1.2ghz with 1 degree more in temperature, using standard cooling... Runs solid after stress tests. not that anyone goes by this but interesting to note, Vista cpu rating went from 5.7 to 5.8... from that minor oc last edited by $ack at 15:39:54 14/Jul/08 |

EDIT: post didn't show, bumped it.
why not? If you don't need the extra performance in-game, then why mess with the clock speeds? On my desktop PC (2.4GHz E6600GT, 7950GT, 2GB ram) TF2 is silky smooth at 1280x1024, almost everything maxed. Vista cpu rating went from 5.7 to 5.8. Who cares about Vista's CPU rating? It's an arbitrary metric with little value. Maybe if you want to know if you're close to a score of 1 or closer to 5 then it may be helpful, but a 0.1 differential is completely arbitrary. Give us frame-rate benchmarks in TF2 pre and post overclock to illustrate the benefits. My point is, I've done my share of overclocking in the past (which included changing SMD components on a graphics card to bump up the voltage) but I've found it's not very necessary these days on a CPU as they are generally fast enough for most purposes. If you can show TF2 receiving a significant boost then hell, I'll overlock now! EDIT #2: well actually I won't because it's already silky smooth. last edited by parabol at 18:26:05 14/Jul/08 |

theres a really retarded thing I get in Dod and sometimes in TF2 that if I have the ingame server browser on the Internet tab it lags like s***, when i put it into the LAN tab pings go back to normal
this doesnt matter if i've got stop seraching servers or not |

parabol, TF2 has always run like a dream but i have noticed a fair amount of gain in other games such as Crysis.
I've done my share of overclocking in the past (which included changing SMD components on a graphics card to bump up the voltage) but I've found it's not very necessary these days on a CPU as they are generally fast enough for most purposes. No voltage changes here, just bumping the FSB to 400 (changing voltages would require better heating solutions and really not where i want to go...) Give us frame-rate benchmarks in TF2 pre and post overclock to illustrate the benefits. meeeeeeeh, as i said it was a quick and minor oc which provided a nice little kick with 1 degree temp rise and stable stress test... My work is done. EDIT: anyway, chub upgrade already :P last edited by $ack at 20:52:09 14/Jul/08 |

as i said it was a quick and minor oc which provided a nice little kick with 1 degree temp rise and stable stress test Again you haven't elaborated on that "nice little kick". Sounds like you haven't actually noticed any real-world improvement. As I said I'm sure that a blind test would show no perceived performance boost, as would be the case for most overclocks (and expensive low-latency ram) these days. last edited by parabol at 21:28:00 14/Jul/08 |

uh parabol I fail to see why you seem too think having a slower computer is a good thing. For a 5 degrees max temperature increase with an extra 1+ghz of processing speed there is really no downside.

with an extra 1+ghz of processing speed I fail to see how that does anything when one can already get an insane frame-rate at stock speed? Remember we're talking about TF2. I'll repaste the quote that I am addressing: "get a P5KC + E8400 + 1gb Ram, overclock to 3.6ghz" Overclocking is generally for people with way too much time on their hands. To feel confident about an overclock, you have to stress test it for many hours to find a sweet spot (all CPUs are different) and even then it's still a matter of probability whether your data integrity (in ram, hard-drive or otherwise) is compromised ... regardless of the core temperature. last edited by parabol at 23:23:38 14/Jul/08 |

Its not just for games it also improves overall system speed. Hell I have a Q9300 overclocked to 2.97ghz x 4 and can go up to 3.5 if I really want I just need to upgrade my mobo. With most new bios software these days it makes over-clocking very easy and safe.
But if you want to battle it out with TF2 an increase like that would probably make the 1600x1200+ resolutions produce a much nicer frame rate. I would test and show you now but my system is to high end for HL2 to actually notice a difference, I can reinstall crysis and show you though that it does make a difference in frame rate. |
