Costello.

But who cares, the system is broken.

We need rolling elections, none of this full-party/house three/four-year terms bulls***.

I still wholeheartedly believe that the country would be in a far better position right now if we had Costello as PM and Turnbul as Treasurer.

THAT IS ALL.

Mal Brough would be a legend. While Turnbull is appealing, he is too progressive for many in the Party at this time. Tony Abbot has ruined his public appeal to middle Australia with the RU486 debate. At a state level I think Tim Nichols has what it takes to be a future leader.

I was commenting on the holiday that Swann and Rudd have been having, and how public opinion has not yet caught onto the fact they have now been in the job for some time and will eventually need to take responsibility for where we are financially.

malcolm turnbull will be the next liberal pm, you heard it here first. won't be next election though, krudd's gonna get 2 terms.

edit: i <3 costello but honestly he's just unelectable as pm imo.

there's something about malcolm that's just not right. i am not going to judge him based on that though. i would have far preferred costello to bat on but he has had a good run serving the country i guess. I WANT JOHNNY BACK!!

it's also hard to judge nelson at the moment with the endless spin and symbolism spewing out of the rudd government. that stuff wears thin pretty quickly and what will they be left with - a talentless union-dominated left wing cabinet.

i have said before that i speak with people quite often who voted for rudd and they say to me "what was i thinking voting for that twat!?" and these are not businessmen, these are truck drivers, police officers, take-away workers.

i think it's actually good for the next generation to get a taste of the labor buffoonery. you'll get a good taste of it tonight.

+1 for this.

Still, as a country, we're going to get what we (as a majority) asked for and deserve. With any luck, it'll be short-lived and not too incredibly painful.

liberal fanboys ahoy!

anyway, the labor government hasn't had enough time to f*** anything up yet, any problems we have at the moment with inflation is purely caused by liberals.

all a government can do is set a direction to travel in, howards point of view was to take from the poor and give to the rich, labor, a union based party has an opposite view on that.

why is it that if i do overtime, i only see 60% of what i actually make, yet rich c***s who have a f***load of tax write offs can claim it all back ? its one large class of people, the lower 95%, supporting the upper end to stay rich and keep get richer.

as for you teeny boppers who can't move on from pre-mix drinks you would get wasted on at high school, its now time to move on, if it costs $26 for a 6 pack, then buy a bottle of that cheap s*** bourbon for $25 and 2l coke for $2. whingers. buy goon.

Not really...

I hope Rudd does well, I just don't like the looks of what they're doing.

As for taking from the rich and giving to the poor... well, it looks to me like they're taking from everyone and giving to the Government to me...?

Any liberal leader is better than Kevin Rudd.

Kevin Rudd's new nickname is "SHOWBAG"

are you f***ing serious?

As for inflation, its a legacy left but I think the previous government was better eqipped to fight it. Instead all the current one does is blame it on the previous one, and continually talk down the economy as though its some basket case.

People with the attitude that the poor are hard done by and the rich are big fat cats who don't contribute need to reminded of the following old story...

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner and the bill for all comes to $100.If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing like they do now with the present income tax structure.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59 of the bill.

So that is what the ten men decide to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you all are such good customers I am going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20”. Dinner for the 10 men now costs just $80...

The group still wanted to pay the bill the same way that they paid their taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six men -- the Paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everybody would get his “Fair Share”?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth and sixth man would each end up being paid to eat their meal…So, the restaurant owner suggested it would be fair to reduce each mans bill roughly the same amount; and proceeded to work out the amounts each man would pay.

The fifth, like the first four now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth man now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings)

The seventh man now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings)

The eight man now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)

The ninth man now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings)

The tenth man now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings)

Each of the six was better off then before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings…

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man “but he got $10”…“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. Its unfair that he got ten times more than me!?”“That’s true”, shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!”“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploit’s the poor!”The nine men surrounded the tenth man and beat him up…

The next night the Tenth man did not show up for dinner, so the Nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half the bill!

And that Boys & Girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just might not show up anymore. In fact, they might start eating overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier…

to be fair governments, be they liberal or labor, don't have really affect inflation that much in any kind of meaningful way.

it's got to do with far more powerful fundamental economic forces that they really have no control over nor can they affect them too much.

Regardless of who thinks who is hard done by by what tax change, I'm sick of everyone complaining so much about paying tax, it's incredibly selfish.

I say we scrap the whole lot, bring in a 90% flat tax rate, and install a completely non-corrupt, totalitarian government that pledges to summarily execute anyone who complains about politics on the internet.

Indeed, we've had Ted Baillieu (a.k.a. that state liberal leader guy... whatisname), our own little version of Brenden Nelson (a.k.a. that federal liberal leader guy... whatisface), for quite some time now.

I don't think that the federal leadership of the Coalition / Libs really matters that much at the moment. We have to go all the way back to 1929-1932 to find a Government that served a single term in Australia, the disintegration of the Scullin administration at the time effectively a by-product of the Great Depression.

The current Government would need to f*** up with infi-style magnitude for them to not get a second term, or something else truly spectacular happen.

The whitlam labor government was almost there. Gained power '72, called an early election in '74, was sacked in '75, and then lost that election. total term was less than 3 years. though he did win 2 elections, so you could say he was elected for 2 terms.

yep, exactly. i think it's referred to as a honeymoon period in political economy terms. that's why turnbull won't get in until the election after next. that is assuming he doesn't get bored of politics instead of running off to enjoy his massive pile of cash.
