2K Games have officially confirmed that a BioShock movie deal has been reached with Universal Pictures, green-lighting a feature film based on the acclaimed first person shooter. While the announcement of a video-game based movie is often not a good thing, this one might be a little different as Pirates of the Carribean director Gore Verbinski is already attached as BioShock's director and producer.
The prospect of bringing this blockbuster game to life has attracted not only a major studio, but top Hollywood talent. Gore Verbinski, director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, is slated to direct and produce the BioShock movie. John Logan, Academy Award-nominated writer of Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd, is in talks to do the screenplay.

An original property developed by 2K Games, BioShock is one of the most successful new interactive entertainment franchises to launch in recent years. A critical and consumer hit, BioShock has sold more than 2 million units worldwide since its release in August 2007. A sequel to the game, BioShock 2, is planned for a release in 2009.
A release date or further details of the film's cast or content have yet to be revealed.

It'll be interesting to see who is meant to play the protagonist since we never got to see him.

it amazes me that ppl still throw money at video game movies when there has been a 100% fail rate of the dozen or so movies that have been made.

At least they are not throwing money at Uwe Boll in this instance.

I thought Hitman and Resident Evil (first one) was fairly successful.

Agreed, the only two that were anywhere near enjoyable so far. I haven't seen the majority of game-movies, but of the ones I have Doom was so the worst. All they need to do with these movies is not stray from the original storyline so damn much, and they won't ruin them to the point where they just don't make sense anymore! These stories are already designed to be told and develop and be entertaining, why do they need to change them so f***ing much!! WHY!!!

Also, BioShock had quite a bit of story, so as long as they don't do as discussed above, it could stand to be quite entertaining.

First time I caught a little sister I was pissed as hell that bioshock went with the whole "if you kill her you get the reward, if you save her you get nothing" sharade. I was contemplating being a jackass for the entire game just in spite of 2k's moral-forcing bulls***.

I then found out that you get told about the reward for saving the little sisters AFTER you make the choice to save them, and loved the feeling of having avoided the trickery of the bad moral choice. I love 2K, freakin' geniuses. I haven't even finished the game yet and I still really like all the choices made by the developers.

Movie is guaranteed to stand up and impress people.
