bink:
You move your character around using the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer. You shoot by tapping on the screen. It actually looks like a fun way to play Quake 3, but I doubt if you’re going to be beat anyone on a keyboard and mouse. Youtubez: |

I've got Quake 1 on my N95, which runs brilliantly, but I can tell you now, that using the accelerometer to control it is absolute balls. You can't strafe either, the only way it'd be playable would be with a bluetooth Keyboard and mouse. I imagine it'd be pretty much the same story on the iPhone, just with a larger screen.

This demo is akin to almost any product from Apple: sure it looks impressive, but after the shiny veneer of gimmick wears off you can see that it's inferior to other options out there.

I've had a bunch of PDA/phones over the last 10 years or so. Now I have an iphone and its da s*** :)
The interface is so slick and efficient compared to how clunky WM is. Everything just works great and you can see the level of thought that has gone in to so many areas of its development. Sure there have been a couple of small holes, but I dont care, its fukin great :) |

Careful Apple lovers! Drum up much more support for your beloved company and it won't even be cool to like them anymore, then you'll have to find your misguided sense of superiority elsewhere! :P When was hating Apple ever cool anyway? |

I don't love Apple at all - far from it given their bulls*** with the iPod touch and trying to make me pay for what should be a free update, I don't CARE how they account for it - I just think bitching randomly about them because Quake 3 wasn't designed from the ground up to be an iPhone game is a little weird.
It's a tech demo - one that is pretty f***in impressive - and no more. It shows a couple of things: 1) their hardware is good enough to run Quake 3, and it fits in your goddamn pocket 2) its relatively easy to port extremely complicated software to the iPhone |

Can't argue with you there, it was a pretty random bitch. It's just that when I see something cool that's in any way related to Apple I can't help imagining the pretentious smirks that blind Apple lovers will inevitably have on their big dumb faces, and verbalisations of annoyance come out in some sort of Tourette's-like spasm.

You do realise that Apple didn't make this demo.. Don't you? Let's pay out a company because some random ported a game to their hardware... Me know makey sense y'all I just think bitching randomly about them because Quake 3 wasn't designed from the ground up to be an iPhone game is a little weird. But didn't id know that in 10 years an iPhone would come out and that they use OpenGL with the iPhone in mind, right? last edited by ³dee at 13:07:16 08/Apr/08 |

Apple are pricks.
My mactop power supply shat itself the other day. $129 later, for a friggin 100-240v transformer. Also with no US adaptor I might add - dorrahs separately for that also! |

That's where they all get ya - accessories. Imagine a world where hardware makers made cheap accessories to entice you to buy the main thing!

Imagine a world where consumers were smart enough to factor in the possibilities of needing and costs of accessories before they bought something!

Imagine a world where Apple weren't greedy f***en expensive f***s?
The irony of it all is that I still buy ipods... Speaking of that, why the hell does no-one sell the iPod Universal Dock remotes as of around a month ago?? Stores have only got $80 dock+remotes now. I don't want to wait a week for a little plastic remote to get delivered from the Apple Store! |

Imagine a world where consumers were smart enough to factor in the possibilities of needing and costs of accessories before they bought something! They'd never buy anything if that was the case. Would you buy something if you knew you'd have to spend hundreds of bucks each year replacing components that kept failing?!!# |

Generally I find the core range to be pretty good, laptops, desktops, mac pros.
I've busted six or more ipods, (replaced under warranty or re-bought), so Apple can GGF on that one. And their support hurts. Anecdotally the iPhone doesn't seem to have much going wrong with it (what, 9 months after release?). Back on topic, someone port this to the iPhone, now THAT'D be schmooove! last edited by dRanged at 17:07:32 08/Apr/08 |
