Can anyone confirm whether this information is correct?

Fixed speed camera locations (Brisbane)

It has been revealed to Roadsmart the locations of the first fixed speed cameras in Queensland. Police have said that these locations have been chosen specifically due to the fact that they are not safe locations to have police, or police in vehicles operating the mobile cameras.

The first of three trial fixed speed cameras will be positioned on the:

Tarragindi off-ramp (M1) on Brisbane's Southside, another along the

Bruce Highway at Burpengary and on the

East-side of the Story Bridge targeting vehicles traveling from both directions.

Number of pictures taken: 23409234234892

Number of pictures thrown out due to disputable photograph with multiple vehicles: 23409234234892

Stupid place for a camera, will only catch people in the early hours of the morning. The rest will be too heavy traffic for an identifiable/non disputable photo.

Not really, throughout most of the day the Story Bridge feels like it should be 70, not 60.

If there is any vehicle in the photograph that is of remotely similar size/shape to the vehicle being accused of speeding.
Then the fine is dismissable.

Story bridge usually has quite a few people on it in bunches/side by side.

I don't get the East side of the story bridge.. I thought the "Valley" end of the Story bridge would of been North and the KP end South.

roadsmart is run by a guy I went to school with, he sells speed camera detectors and s***
he's been a hoon since the early days, he is number #1 on some website for reporting hoons around australia
cant remember the link now but if you find it his plates are 444 GSY and he drives a blue vrx lancer (from what I can remember)

also balls, if you are dumb enough to get boned by a fixed speed camera you deserve to get caught

I saw a digital roadworks sign the other day on the Northside saying reduce speed to 40, noone was there working as it was in the evening so traffic was just going through at the usual 60, then it gave a reading of the speed you approached the sign at.

Pretty sure in Sydney they have fixed speed cameras at two separate points along a stretch, so if you reach the second one faster than you would travelling the speed limit the whole way, you get done.. Think it might be in the newish tunnels?

with fixed speed cameras they are above the traffic, and these is one for each lane i am pretty sure.

its not like the normal ones with side on view, and multiple vehicles.

I like the part where it says

locations have been chosen specifically due to the fact that they are not safe locations to have police, or police in vehicles operating the mobile cameras.

Instead of

locations have been chosen specifically due to the fact that they are areas where speeding has caused many accidents and or is a known problem area for excessive speeding where it is highly likely to cause an accident.

Also according to Wheels mag less than 3% off all Australian recorded road fatalities are from speeding alone.

speed cameras have to be within a certain distance of a high accident area.

the police on the south side of the story bridge is a bit of a joke, i got pulled over there a while back. i was in the far right hand lane heading west. cop walks out into the middle of traffic stops all the lanes (3? i think) walks over to my lane signals me to pull over to the left, at which point the car next to me decided to go. cop jumped back in front of him to stop him. so i drive over, up the gutter to stop on the grass there. cop then informs me that my steering wheel is metal which is illegal (which it isn't) and tells me its fine to go.

regardless, it was a pretty retarded display. pulling people over for speeding/random checks/rbt, yet jumping out from behind a tree to do so onto a busy as f*** road. not really sending the right signals about road safety are they.

... lol they do realise that most steering wheels are usually metal with rubber over them, you cant tell me at an accident of 80> that the rubber outer is going to absorb much of the impact energy.

Steering wheels as you describe are collapsable in an accident.

Full metal/after market ones generally are not.

They have fixed speed camera's along the highways in Japan and you can buy off the net a little device that picks up the sigle and starts beeping when you approach a fixed speed camera. I wonder if the same devices will work here in aus....

uh what the f***, no steering wheel is collapsible. the steering *columns* are. and having a metal wheel (it was actually padded, but metal spokes) doesn't change that. and thats only for new(er) cars anyway.

old cars you can make the wheel out of diamonds and its legal.

The story bridge is a high accident area? Since when? I personally cant remember the last time I have heard of an accident on the story bridge, let alone one causing a fatality. Yet you hear nearly daily that some idiot has some how managed to roll over on the gateway.

Of course they wont put one there becuase the gateway authority wouldnt let them.

While on this topic, does anyone know if the flash goes off on them sneaky road side speed cameras mounted in the snorkel of the 4WD's?
I was driving back from the coast the other week, didn't see it till I was close to it because there was a 4WD between it and me, saw i was doing 20 over and went oh s***. No flash or anything though, it was late afternoon, poor light, surely they'd use flash?

I heard (and this could be BS) that they aren't allowed to use flashes anymore because it can distract the driver and be dangerous.

Last time I saw a flash was about 3 - 4 years ago at the coast when we were all drunk in a maxi taxi and were cheering our driver to go through a red light (left turn into a side street at 2am with no traffic anywhere)... sure enough there was this massive flash and the driver started swearing. We lol'ed.

Yeah, esp NSW. But theres some rule that says the driver has to be informed at least three times before a permanent camera.

Theres one on the highway offramp at Banora Point on Far North Coast NSW.
Theres three signs warning you that its coming up from about 500m before the camera.

Its in the most rediculous place though, its about 75 metres from where the highway ends, and its on a pretty long/steep hill - so you have to slow to 60 and get stuck in a s***ty gear trying to get up an epic hill. And it only captures that side of the road, so it doesnt get anyone going 100+ going down the hill and coming up to the on-ramp.

LAME.

For starters the camera's arnt mounted in the snorkel of 4WD's. They are mounted on the dash and aimed at a 15 degree angle across the road (which is where it detects you and takes the picture). All landcruiser camera's are mounted this way.

The new speed camera (merc sprinter) is mounted at the back and front and shoots the angle at a 15 degree angle but can cover 6 lanes of hwy at the same time. (it takes a streaming video).

Speed camera's can be confused if you slam on the brakes in the detection zone and it won't take the picture

And to answer your question. Yes the flash still goes off. I was coming home from maryborough on the weekend and got done outside gympie. The whole sky lit up for a quick second and scared the s*** out of me. And it was most definetely a speed camera. :(

My uncle works at the police workshop over on shan st which is where they install of the camera's.

Tell me about it.

Last week I got stuck on a 5km stretch of school-zone on a major road, my corolla buzzing along at 40km/h and I swear I went past 3 cameras in total. The warnings are ridiculously obvious, signs everywhere. At least I've noticed people slow down in these areas (good for school kids), then they just continue speeding (70+ km/h) afterwards.

(replied to a very old message, but oh well)

Couldn't be f***ed readin this thread, but the speed camera on the story bridge only does inbound traffic.

The Camera on the bruce highway at burpengary only does outbound traffic.

The Camera on the south east freeway at tarragindi isn't even finished yet afaik, but will only do inbound traffic.

If you miss the 100m of white lines going accross all lanes and the 3-4 sets of warning signs before you get to them and get fined, you = retard

yeah, in NSW now they use infrared flashes so they can take pictures of traffic going both ways. previously they were not allow to take pictures of oncoming traffic as the flash was considered too much of a distraction to drivers.

they have been trailing this on on M4. in between james ruse drive and church st but haven't started fining people yet.

what they are talking about doing now is using the toll pass information on the m7, where your toll pass gets scanned when you get on and when you get off to calculate the toll you need to pay, to calculate average speeds and fine motorists that way but that hasn't been legislated yet.

no need to ruin a good story of a slight technicality!
If you got out and walked it, you will find that it is 100m, it just looks shorter cos you're doing 100 clicks as you go over it.

And there is definately about 4 signs leading up to it warning of an upcoming speed camera.

What's with the signs on the m1 near the hyperdome that say speed cameras in use in this area, yet there are no speed cameras anywhere in sight? Are they going to put speed cameras there eventually or are the signs just to scare people? Because it isn't working, everyone still does 120 through there.

With the 'camera's used in this area' signs they have them all over the ipswich motorway etc. IMO (but im guessing) it just covers them for when they do choose to put the 4wd's out cos they are supposed to have a sign showing.
