Now that there are more options than just Energex, have any of you switched to another company? Why? etc..

Nope I'm still with AGL. If I had gas then I'd probably go for Origin to get a package deal but I can't see much of a reason to change unless the price difference is significant.

my old man got p0wned the other day, some f***ing drop dead gorgeous chick came around door knocking asking them to switch electricity (hadn't been in the country more than 2 weeks)
usually dads pretty blunt and just says thanks but no thanks, he tried that with this chick but she persisted and they are now with some other company

as far as i've seen, the price is pretty much identical for other providers. the only difference is who's logo is on your bill.

i would only consider changing for an aussie owned provider (ie. not origin/energex afaik) or if i a hot chick turned up on my doorstep.

Energex is owned by the Qld Government. Not certain but i think Origin is Australian owned too.

I just moved, and I'm with TRUEnergy. Still haven't got my first bill, so I have no idea how cheap or expensive they are. I don't even know why I went with them to be honest, I think it was because the ad they had on TV a little while back made me laugh.

Me = Consumer whore.

I went with Origin. For no extra charge they offered me 'green power'. What a load of s***. What if I had refused?

just swapped from origin to 'Energy Australia' as they give you one month free (after 12 months).. i asked the chick on the phone about rates and she said the gov sets the price so they are all pretty much the same and have to find other ways to attract cutomers..

When my first bill came from Origin I had noticed the rates had increased by 10%
Also Origin is listed on the ASX so I guess that makes it kind of Australian.

you probably mean that the retail providers all purchase the electricity at a similar rate... they resell it on to consumers at the best price they can...

that was the entire point of opening up the market to competition (which the NCC did afaik?!)... the government doesn't regulate the price otherwise what would be the point of opening the market to competition...
