who is right?

ok, me vs wifey

the settings on the main attachment of a vacuum cleaner
one has the brush out, one has the brush in

i always vacuum like this, flat floor (ie not carpet) i use the setting without the brush out (ie the flat setting on the attachment head)

if its carpet, i use the little setting that looks like carpet, and the brush is out

apparently this is all wrong and i dont know vacuuming

flat floor I have always used the brush setting. I hope I haven't been doing it wrong all these years (although I'm domestically handicapped so it wouldn't really suprise me)

why would u have the brush out on a flat floor?

surely that would move the dirt away from the sucking in bit

and, the setting is spose to look like the floor surface its vacuuming

flat floor = flat vacuum setting
carpety floor = the setting that looks like carpet

when i was just vacuuming then, u should have felt the suction i was getting without the brush on the flat floor

if i put the brush out, i dont get no where near the sucking

The brush down is for sweeping dust up off the hard-surfaced floor so it gets sucked up easier. Having it down while vacuuming carpet only adds unwanted resistance.

with the brush out it also works a little but like a sweeping action too, have you ever actually tried to use the brush on carpet? it doesn't move..

maybe if you have girly faggort arms

my mega guns have no problems powering the brush setting over carpet

the f***ing brush would push the dirt away from where u want it to go

u guys all suck at chores

Sounds like you do if you willingly encourage only men to have the ability to vacuum ;)

little girly arms being able to vacuum as well sounds good to me.

Yep, as others have said, you don't use the brush for carpet, as you can barely move it!

The brush is for flat floors..

The brush down is for sweeping dust up off the hard-surfaced floor so it gets sucked up easier.

Also the brush allows the head to move more smoothly across the surface of the flat floor, and reduces the chance of damaging the floor by scraping etc...

Spook, are you drawing the vacuum's head towards you, or pushing away with it?
If you're pushing away, that's probably why you don't use the brush on hard surfaces. It makes sense to use the brush on hard surfaces if you draw the vacuum towards you (it's a lot easier to vacuum this way too).

That's not a picture of carpet on the head, it's a picture of the bristles, as in press it this way and bristles come out, press the button t'other way and head is flat. DUH!

Brush for hard, no brush for carpet.
Brush allows you go dislodge dirt between the boards/tiles/etc

Or get a head that has a rotating brush which will go across everything, including the dog

Zap is right - the brush setting is supposed to be used on flat surfaces such as wooden floors or tiles, to prevent scratching / marks from the rollers etc.

the brush is for hardfloors so u dont scratch the floors or damage the vacume head.

no brush is for carpet where there's no possibility of scratching, provides better suction, and moves over the carpet easier.

i can't believe anyone could have this confused...

James Dyson was not the first person in the world to be frustrated with vacuum cleaners, but he was the first to actually do something about it.

Let me get this right? You argued with your wife, who for the sakes of this argument, who is a woman about the correct way to vacuum the carpet? What kind of douchnozzle are you?

Not only did you enter an argument that you can't f***ing win (Hello, she's a women, women have genetic understanding of cleaning appliances), but you managed to loose an opportunity to make her vacuum at least once while it was your turn.

Here's what you should have done ...

wife: "holy s*** you're lame. What kind of idiot uses the vacuum cleaner like that? Why did I marry you?"

you: "What do you mean honey? Can you show me?"

wife: "sure"

At this point you go to the fridge and acquire a beer. Mission Accomplished.

bottom of page 7 refer to brush roll

or ill just quote, brush roll is "off" for hard floors and "on" for carpets.

now thats solved lets move on to why i cared so much to bother spending time reading vacuum cleaner manuals till i found one that mentioned that
