Topic: FireFox is giving me the heebie jeebies

If I highlight text in one window, press ctrl-c, then alt tab to another and press ctrl v it won't paste the copied text.

Along with, if I am posting in a 'reply post' window and press the ' button (as in don't) it will pop up the search function - however only in 40% of cases, not all the time. Even one minute it does it, the next it doesn't. No consistency

This has only been happening for a few months and it is bugging me. It has been tried in another persons profile so it isn't just me

Was there an update that messed it all up?

Have you tried disabling all your extensions? Failing that, uninstall, delete, maim, kill, etc.. My FF (v1.0.7) works without any problems.

1.5.0.1 is the one I have, I am guessing update time. Wasn't there some issue with the update?

Only extention I have is adblock and I only installed it recently - after issues started

maim and kill is looking appeitising

firefox has sucked for random copy/paste issues since day dot, I've never installed any extensions whatsoever - it's just in firefox itself

i have found that when that happens you just have right click--->copy then right click--->paste..sucks but doesnt happen that often

I get it several times a day, particularly when trying to copy/paste to/from a remote desktop session. It's one of the main reasons I can't use firefox as my mian browser, too much of a pain in the ass to have a bunch of web pages/RD sessions open and copy/pasting stuff around the place and then have it fail and have to close things down and reopen them to fix it. the right click, or any other method of copy/paste doesn't seem to fix it for me

I used to have that problem all the time, particularly with Remote Desktop - until about v1.07 then it just completely stopped and I've never had a problem since. There are well documented bugs in Firefox's bugzilla about it though.

Any negatives with the 1.07 update? Or I should say, any issues you have found with it? (applies to all)

1.07 is way old, I'm using 1.5.01 now as well

Hmm so you have the same version and yet getting no issues?

Can you miss updates and have it effect future updates?

i.e. you did all updates and I missed one hence why I have the issue and you don't?

Yes I am a n00b

I'm still running 1.5.01 with Adblock, Fasterfox, DownThemAll, PDF Download and Flashgot and it works fine here.

I don't experience any problems with IE. I probably would if I used it though.

I love how you click back in Firefox and it randomly crashes and closes every bloody window open.

Supposedly there is an extension for 1.5+ that allows you to copy paste stuff properly, so says a friend.

Grab an extension called Copy As text for a workaround
Install that, then when you want to copy the text, right click and select "Copy as text" from the menu

I can highlight and click right click copy, right click paste as it is. Why do I need to install an extension to do that?

You shouldn't yet you do.

We had the same problem with 1.5.0.1 with our operators at work who constantly need to copy an paste stuff. This was a patch that sorted out the randomness

If it's RDP type copy/pasting thats causing problems, try killing the process "rdpclip.exe" on your PC & machine your connected to and restart it.

so it isn't just me. I sometimes go to give someone a url, come into FF copy it, then go to msn or irc or whatever & hit paste and it'll be whatever was previously in my clipboard. I figured I was just going insane and forgetting to actually copy the url after selecting it.
