Anyone heard of it? Anyone done it?

I have done the forum and the advanced course followed by a few follow up courses.

I think it has some really good teachings however most of the people who go are looking for excuses not reasons as why they do the things they do.

The best word to describe it is cult and was wondering if anyone else who has heard about it and seen people 'transform' or those who have done it thing it is, or if it is just 'fantastic'?

NO
DO NOT DO IT
STAY AWAY. Landmark is intense course that deconstructs personality and rebuilds it around continued participation in the group. Anal-retentive non-stop participation in seminars and advanced courses is sold HARD.

Landmark education is regarded as a cult. Its widly known to f*** people up and to be a pyramid scheme. Ive studied its effects @ uni and it f***s people up. It was created by a guy who used to run a christian cult and it now turns over $50 mill a year. THey make the money by forcing partcipants to sign their family up to "free sessions" where they tell you that you need help and you have to buy this help by attending sessions. More info about the process follows:

1. THE BAIT
A friend/relative tricks you with the most sincere words into attending an introductory meeting, while appealing to your trust and curiosity, or actual weakness, or all of the above.

2. THE TRAP
Group pressure techniques and wordplay are used upon you and at least 100 more people in 3 days, during which, proper rest and natural needs are denied from you.

3. THE EFFECT
Overwhelming. Might lead to personality disorders. The Forum becomes the most important thing, not its outcomes. You might become a zealot for the Forum (without even registering for the advanced courses), or addicted to it by registering for more, or both. The real effect, most importantly, is economically beneficial to the Forum (unless, of course, you lose your mind and sue them...)

DO NOT GO BACK. Im not kidding you, its well versed in psych journals that people get f***ed up by it.
http://www.rickross.com/reference/landmark/landmark22.html

Its a HUGE moneymaking scheme that focuses on the weak and inpressionable of society. Whats more is that it is just brainwashing and anyone who says anything bad about it is sued.

the Courier mail ran a story about the forum and how it was bad and they got taken to court by Landmark education. THey stifle the media so nothing gets out about them. Ive had personal experience with these lot and they are BAD BAD NEWS. STAY THE f*** AWAY FROM IT.

the problem is with landmark (and every other cult) is that the people who are being affected by it don’t realise the signs.

Both my mother and father did a course and wanted me to come along "for free!", im paranoid at the best of times, so i googled it and found out that its a white collar cult. Convincing them both of what they were involved in was hard enough but they eventually realised. They kept on getting calls from the "group leader" who insisted that they take the sessions they missed as soon as possible and suggested they fly to America where the session would next be held. They use standover tactics to pry on the weak of society and steal their money while giving them a false sense of empowerment and hope.
Kat, all they are doing is making you believe that you have control over your life and your decisions where you already have that control in everyday life - im not going to get into an argument about landmark or its good and bad points or why you are there because chances are people will defend it if they think it is helping them.

Read the literature on it and realise that its f***ing bad news, and for everyone else on this forum : if you get invited to a "free" session, stay the f*** away.

Re fireblood: As i said in another thread, everyone f***s around on the forums but when a real life problem happens (cancer, landmark ect), the bulls*** goes out the window and you try and help as much as you can. Can i date your sister now?
:)

Sounds a bit like Scientology and its effects from what splat said

In the late 1960s, Erhard (creator of landmark education) studied Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard became a significant influence. Scientologists to this day accuse Erhard of having stolen his main ideas for Landmark Education from Hubbard.

We do know that when Erhard set up Landmark Education he considered making it a church, as Hubbard had done with dianetics and the Church of Scientology. But Erhard decided to incorporate as an educational firm for profit in a broad market.

lol lowgoz i like your comparison of cancer to this heh

cancer is an issue that goes beyond the bounderies of this forum, and so does landmark education. I was trying to indicate that its all fun and games until something happens "in real life", then it gets serious.
No calls :( but im sure there will be more in the future

I am one of the landmarkers who did the 'program' got what I could out of it and left the rest behind. I have seen too many fellow landmakers who use landmark as an excuse, use landmark speak in everyday life, and are a constant recruiter for upcoming landmark events

I still have yet to know what seperates the people who do landmark and remain normal people and those ho get sucked into it

I think we can all conclude that cults are bad mmmkay?
Now to move on and show everyone once and for all that the major religions started out as shady cults too and have only gone further by gaining more advocates of their chosen cult activities.

2000 years down the track scientology may be bigger than jesus due to all the facts being fudged.

*Case in point, mormans and thats only been what 2, 3 hundred years fudging?*

i dont think she is advertising, but asking opinions which i have no problem with as long as qgl sides with me that landmark is the root of all that is bad.

kat: you said it in your first post that you went to a "number" of follow up courses then furthur on you say that you arn't addicted.

at $500 a course you probabliy have spent (or your mother has spent) close to 2 grand on courses. I would argue on this basis that you got sucked into a scheme

As I said earlier, there are people who do landmark and don't get brain washed. Just because I did the program 4 years ago paid by my landmark obsessed mother) doesn't mean I am addicted.

I asked a question based on the experience I have had with people who have done it and the fact my mother is doing one of the programs for the 6th or 7th time and I have been bomarded with 'landmark calls' all weekend from her telling me her insights. 99% of the paticipants turn into the landmark poster children.

Doesn't mean that some people don't better themselves from it and doesn't mean since I got some good from it that I think it is for everyone or think that the process is helpful at all.

cliffs. Landmark can work for some people but I have yet to find a handful of those that haven't let it infect their lives. hence the question

lol at Fpot's and Triamks posts on here.

Mmmm...I can't say I've ever heard of any cults in Brisbane until now but now that I know I guess I'll stay away...sounds kinda creepy.

Lowgoz - sorry to hear that your parents got suckered into it but glad to hear that they at least know that now and hopefully can move on from the "experience".

lol...sorry, can't help but laugh again at Fpot's and Triamk's posts (I won't say anymore).

Also, just read the thread before that Kat posted about all the "newbies" - something tells me (though I could of course be wrong) that it was SOMEWHAT directed at me. I was going to post under that thread but it's now locked :(. Anyway, yeah, I'm a newbie but I've been lurking these forums from time to time (like once a week or so) since about April/May when a friend of mine told me about it. I find the forum quite amusing and I told a couple of my chickie babe friends about it and they suggested I join for a laugh - needless to say, it's been that! Anyway, I probably won't be posting much on here anymore and for those of you guys that added the agent99 msn address to your list, you should probably just delete it - I only set it up so that I could tell the guys who keep coming onto me (seriously or otherwise) to back off a little cos I'm not interested in meeting anyone on the net (though I'm sure you're all really nice).

Anyway, I'm off to do some study - got exams next week. Good luck to all of you guys with exams too. Catch you later :).

Thanks for the heads up Lowgoz, some interesting info from those links you posted back on page 1. Just goes to show that if you can exploit people's insecurities, you can make them believe anything.

Do you know what happens to the apostates who leave the program ?

Kat, you're an demonstrably insecure fool, so i hope you take lowgowz advice and stay the f*** away from this cult, despite the naggings of your clearly bats*** insane mother.

Do you know what happens to the apostates who leave the program ?

ill use my mother as an example and describe what has happend since she told them to f*** off.

1) she is on the mailing list and gets heaps of snail mail which i guess is normal
2) her friends that she made at the forum call her and tell her they arn't gona talk to her anymore if she doesn't come to another session with them
3) "team leaders" used to call her saying she had no self respect for not turning up to landmark sessions and that she is personally letting the "team" down by not paying her $500 and doing the session

Landmark's stragity is to blame the individual person if they arn't getting anything out of the course and strong-arming them into doing another "advanced" course. If you refuse they tell you that your problem is that you quit at everything and thats why your life is crap.

The "homework" assignment for the landmark forum is for the partcipant to go home and get 5 people to come to the "dree supper and information" evening. After which those 5 people are taken aside and activly recruited to attend the forum. This chain mail tactic ensures that the forum's partcipants always are on the rise. Its f***ing disgusting. Anyone publising bad comments about the forum gets a huge lawsuit against them - thats why you see nothing in the media but a lot of stuff on the internet.

Advanced course is Thursday through to Sunday 8am to 11pm (onwards) and Tuesday 7-11pm

Thursday 8am - 11pm (15 hour day)
Friday 8am - 11pm (15 hour day)
Saturday 8am-11pm (15 hour day)
Sunday 8am-11pm (15 hour day)

The Forum attempts to deconstruct personal attachments in a non-abusive manner by focussing your attention inward: The basis is being kept in a hotel ballroom for 10 hour days with little sleep, listening to the same thing over and over and over. Most of it consists of having people look at their childhood, and find the events that caused them to make decisions about other people, especially their parents.

You can't go to the bathroom when you want, you take meals in groups, there are strict rules about talking and conduct, and the leader won't hesitate to shame you into compliance. Much of it is psychology parlor tricks, like making a headache go away by imagining it as a physical void in your head, and imagining it being filled. This goes on for four full days. The last 1/2 day is sales night. This night, all the participants are told to bring friends and relatives. The focus of the evening is on sales: signing up your relatives for the Forum, and signing YOU up for advanced classes.

Pretty funny picture Maxe. And like i said before, Kat has no shame. So while i've never heard of such a cult group by this name before, and lowgoz posted some good detailed and interesting information, it doesn't suprise me she'd be involved directly or indirectly in such a thing.

Also i don't believe persay asked for the exact hours of operation or what days these scams are held but just what the money was spent on. Is that a subliminal recruitment attempt i see?

Yes, guys, I'm all woman (no alter ego)...as I said, just started posting up here for a laugh (what can I say...I'm just another mischeivous student with too much time on my hands, lol) - you guys are hilarious and bring much amusement to my otherwise boring breaks between classes at uni :).

Also, fyi Spidz: With a current GPA of 6.2 in a Biomedical Science and Neuroscience degree at UQ, I'd hardly say I'm stupid... :P.

Just so you are aware, a good GPA does not make you "smart".

It means you have a good GPA. If anything as qualifications increase attachment with reality decreases.

^lol, sorry guys, there is NO WAY I'm posting my picture on the internet.

Also, sorry Paveway-3 - I actually happen to think that some of the guys I spoke to the other night on msn were quite nice people...though a few of you said some things which led me to believe that you wanted more than was EVER on offer.

Gotta run guys - got an assignment due at midday! :).

Edit: No, I'm not Michelle Q and I don't know her, sorry!
Also - yeah, I know a good GPA doesn't NECESSARILY mean you are "smart"...it firstly depends on how you define "smart"...
But, in spite of what my GPA is, I still think I'm a pretty smart chick...at least for the most part (I'll still say and do the odd stupid thing or two at times, lol :) ).

I disagree - that's not necessarily the case. Whilst I'd have to say that I study a fair bit, I'm also pretty good at being efficient with my time so that I can still have a life and be a person and so therefore remain in touch with "reality". But anyways, that's just my opinion :). Chat to you later kids, I've really got to get this assignment printed off and handed in!!! :)

lol Obes, I don't think I'm "qualified"...in fact, part of being a studying is understanding that you never really "know" everything...

And yeah, I am still studying - but doesn't mean that I still don't kick butt! :).

just imagine she was uber rolly polly, feel like giving her attention now?

i mean, thats why kat gets s*** right? because she attention whores herself out, but people think she isn't good looking enough to get away with it, so they bag her out.

What can I say? QGL - it's the gift (for time wasting) and the curse (sometimes you can't help but post!)

Yeah, sorry if I've been a bit of an "attention whore" today - I thought I was just being assertive at the time but upon second readings I suppose I have been a little full of myself. It was probably just because I wrote an awesome assignment at the eleventh hour and surprised myself. But it's cool, I'm over myself now...

A99 isn't hot, why else would you be so self conscious you wouldn't want to post pics.

^^This post may in fact be an incredibly weak, lame and overused reverse psychology trick.^^

Also, did anybody else cringe at Kat's posts?
Kat - it sounds to me like you're trying to self-reassure in this thread and really attempting to use the "perspective" that has been spoon-fed to you.
Almost as if you came in here knowing what s*** would stir and testing out your new "perspective and way of looking at things/thinking".

It's akin to going out and deliberately angering/frustrating/upsetting yourself and trying to convince yourself to think positively and consciously change your emotion.

In short, it blows balls and seems fake.

lol, thanks! Let me clarify things for you guys. I'm not posting my picture on this forum or anywhere else on the internet because:
1. I don't have a scanner or a webcam to to aid me in posting a picture up (I'd rather spend my money on shoes).
2. I don't know you guys...AND I have to question exactly WHAT would happen to any pictures if they were posted up...
3. Not all of you guys have posted your pictures, so why would I???
Just something for you guys to think about...

Darius: k, was just hoping GPA's do mean nothing when compared to experience etc

Let's cut to the point - a GPA is not an indication of how smart one is. It is merely a representation of how much arse you kicked in your assignments and exams whilst at uni. NOTHING ELSE. It doesn't mean you can hold a conversation; it doesn't mean you can drive a 4WD and take awesome shots of it; and it doesn't mean you can survive in the "real" world.
For whatever it is worth, I happen to think "living" and having "experience" is farrrr more important than having a kick arse GPA...I just think having a kick arse GPA helps...

I've got an exam this afternoon ppl - wish me luck! ;)

BTW, good luck to all in their exams too.
