Topic: Getting dodgey DVD players fixed?

The hospital was donated a whole bunch of brand new "Universal" DVD players, code UNI-1708. Almost all of them have stopped working, most registering "NO DISK" or just spitting the disk straight out. I can't find any contact details for the people who donated them (still looking) and just wondering how hard it is to get these things looked at and fixed.

Where is somewhere cheap that I can get these DVD players fixed?

We had those players at work ages ago and that happened to every one of them. The cost of fixing them wouldn't be worth it. I would recommend never buying that s***e brand.

Thanks Rev. I suspected that might be the case. While I'm at it, if you ever have any spare kids DVD's that you wanna get rid of, flip them my way so we can lend them to the kids who are stuck in bed!

I could burn some for you, but that would be wrong.

Yes that would be wrong. Maybe you could email me at willh@workingwonders.com.au and we could talk about how wrong it would be.

for ones that wont read discs, unscrew them, wipe down the laser, and check that the ribbon cables are securly attached (this works some of the time)

the 1708 is a good player when they work

i just fixed one then,
1) open case
2) secure ribbon cable + clean lense
(still wouldnt read disc)
3) i pulled the ribbon cable out (the one on the right, not on the laser part) and re-attached it
4) it now works fine.

check ur email billy (arf***, my hosting is down so i cant upload the pic of the player or email it, u got msn?)

Just tried it with one Jem, works perfectly. I'm gonna try it on another.

Only prob is I had to break the seal on the back so I'll have to pay to get them tested again by someone.

onya though dude you may have saved us a heap of hassle and money.
