Topic: BF2 30 bots on 32 player map mod... Finished at last!

After weeks of toil indespersed with useful feed back from some partial beta maps released two weeks ago, here is the finished product.

30 player COOP on 'near 32' player size maps.

Grab it here

http://users.on.net/~codebasher/COOP_V_1.0_Package.zip
55 MB download

Unzip the above to a temp working directory and follow instructions in INSTRUCTIONS.TXT

====== What's been done ======

I took the 16 player single player maps, upped them to 30 bots, overlayed 32 or 64 player boundaries to open up space (except for one), then added control points and equipment close to the perimeter of the 16 player pathing mesh resulting in a whole new experience. For the flyboys, where practicable I also added missing fixed wing aircraft to the airfields even though spawn points were not necessarily close by.

The end result was much larger maps than 16 player with six to seven control points instead of only three or four. This altered the flavour of some to give a new perspective on these old warhorses. Sharqi Peninsula being my favourite.

Sadly only seven maps lent themselves to the process.

Dalian Plant
Gulf of Oman
Operation Clean sweep
Sharqi Peninsula
Songhua Stalemate
Strike at Karkand
Zatar Wetlands

===============================

These are good for single player or COOP play. For COOP play, one still has to start the game in single player mode and then have the others link to them via direct IP.

This mod will not alter any existing BF2 files

Please let me know of any problems.

cheers all

code

PS: Trog, If you think it's worth while feel free to host it on Ausgamers. I've had a few peeps suggest I should make this request.

its really quite sad that they did'nt make these maps to begin with instead of someone having to edit their own. exellent work though. i'm gonna download em now.

this would be awesome if you could allow weapon unlocks. I want to give a few of the weapons a thorough testing.

i tried hax0ring the unlocks.py file and stuff but it did nothing...

Strex, I used to have my single player weapons all unlocked so I could make a better decision when performing an actual unlock online. Since the 1.01 patch, this hasn't worked

ps - when we LANing =)

Weapon unlocks were handy until 1.01 happened. I don't know how to "fix" that bit now.. :(

Hey Codebasher, I saw a link the other day to someone that had done a 64 players server (they also said don't try this on anything but a beast of a machine) Is that why you haven't bothered with the 64 player version?

On the host machine, start a single player game like you normally would, then on the machines you want to join, go to multiplayer, and there is an option in there for "connect to ip" or something similar, put in the hosts machine addy there and it will connect to your "single" player game.

Least thats what we did. hope that helps

log on to the game with an internet account otherwise 'connect to IP' won't work.

V3 is nearly complete.

some highlights

more bots all round

Fushe Pass: CHINA vs MEC

Sungua: fog removed, attack choppers added.

Karkand: tanks & apc's replaced by jeeps, more points added, some moved.

I'd cop endless flack from every peep who doesn't run a decent high end PC.

I'm upping V3 from 30 to 36 bots as it doesn't seem to effect stability/speed too much.

yup.

or you can do the following.. (excerpt from web site)

Q: I cant see my friends when they are hosting and .. when I click "connect to IP" nothing pops out for me to try to insert their IP.. must i go make an online account?

A: Yes. or.....you can do the following

1 ) Both peeps start game using BF2_start.bat
2) Get the host to start a local multiplayer LAN game (not single player). Map doesn't matter at this point.
3) Get the other computer to go to join local lan game screen but NOT JOIN the server. At this point the host should be visible on the client machine
4) have the server quit and start a single player map of choice.
5) Once server player has spawned, have client then click join and viola, LAN with bots and no internet connection
