US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.
The fact that they sustained no brain damage is a really f***ing awesome sign as its one of the main problems when somones heart stops beating - lack of oxygen to the brain.

Imagine how many lives could be saved by removing the 'time to get from scene to hospital' factor.

I was hoping for a pet dog that you couldn't kill unless you had a shotgun to blow off its head ... the ultimate in low maintenance pets.

meh, too much toying with the natural cycle...
if someone dies they should die.. sounds mean, but where will it stop.
i personally do not think this is such a good idea, even if it were to save a loved one of mine.. i would be thankful, but i dunno..

clinical death i think is defined as when your vital signs stop for a certain period of time (though i supposed that ppl have been revived from being clinically dead, so that's why it's only clinical). though i could be wrong on the exact defintion.

Yeah, thats about it. When the body stops functioning your heart stops pumping which isnt as important as oxygen is no longer fixed to blood cells which means anything the heart could pump is now useless. The cells of the body, without oxygen for respiration, start to die and when the cells die they cannot be brought back. In the brain this causes brain damage.

So from a possibly revivable state is clinical death. 'Technically dead'

edit: its like in the princess bride, only half dead not whole dead or whatever, I cant remember the exact words.

"The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.
but what about MEC?

Whilst this make work on non-sentient creatures, what of those creatures which are sentient (ie us)? Its all well and good that the dog died and was brought back to life, seemingly without cerebral damage but what of its memories? Or its personality?

Also, this wouldn't work on lawyers or politicians...

I thought clinical death was measured by a number of factors before they will pronounce you dead. 0 brain activity, 0 pulminary activity & 0 respiratory activity, dead dead is just plain eaten by coyoties, 6 feet under pushing up daisies gone.

heard it on some foxtel doco but wasn't really paying attention so I could be mistaken.

Thats why they will run clinical trials before making wide spread use of it. And dogs are sentient, they just cant tell you about it.

Judging by some footage of question time, I think science already knows the answer to this - I mean half the backbenchers meet the criteria you just described so obviously we've discovered a reanimation technique :D.

I'd be more concerned about the brain-dead retards already posting in here... I'm surprised fuknukle can string more than two words together. Wonders will never cease.

Oh and I was referring to the fact that lawyers and politicians are blood sucking vampires who would cease to be without it.

And, who are the poor bastards who will form the basis of a human trial? I can't see too many people volunteering to have their bloody sucked out and have it replaced with brine.
