if only :(
The one that blew up was an Acer 211c that I bought 2nd hand about 18 months ago for $650. I picked up the Dell for nothing (which I'm using at present) cept it has serious green issues along with quite noticeable ghosting of text. The Dell is the one that I would be fixing. $85 just for them to even take a look at it, but apparently comes of the total cost of the repairs. Man, this sux. I'm was about to have a week off as well and had planned on bumming around playing games. I wonder if I should cancel my holidays... |

I'm really considering it..
Just that I had planned on spending cash on new box instead of this Dammit, I knew I was up for extra cash on something when the petrol bowser wouldn't fill up tank (had a feeling that I was going need cash bad elsewhere) .... |

i upgraded from dual 21 p1100's to an apple cinema display, havent regretted it for a second. lcd's were dodgy when they were the 'in' thing but now that they have matured a bit, they are just awesome. + totally light for any lannage (compared to the chiropracter ordeal associated with 21 crts). just make sure you get a decent one! (the dell lcd's i use at uni when im there are pretty average). oh and if you watch hdtv on ur comp, make sure u get a widescreen, absolutely georgous and you get full screen realestate :D

BenQ 19" FP937S 12ms LCD - $470 from Umart
It's f***ing amazing. I notice no ghosting whatsoever. Nice vibrant colours, and cheap as hell with a 7 day no dead pixel warranty. |

I've just been informed that a BenQ 19" FP937S+ 8ms LCD appears to be trying to make it's way to my desk as I
FireFrog so kindly demo'd the 8ms next to a 12ms one and there was SUBSTANTIAL difference and better quality to be seen. Both in colour and speed. I never thought that 12ms Response Time, Brightness of 250 cd/m2, Contrast Ratio 500:1 would be so visually different to 8ms, Brighness of 300 cd/m2, 700:1 Contrast Ratio would make that much of a diff. Now to see what the lifespan of this one is =) |

depends what's wrong with the 21" what exactly happened to it? If it's just a small transistor blown get a mate who can solder to unsolder it & put a new one in. Have you checked the fuse that's in there? :)

^^ duno where my other post went?
There were many *snap*, *crackle* and *pop* sounds coming from it I thought someone had dumped rice bubbles into it. It also used to randomly resize an had a bit of a ghost thingy happening with fine text. I turned it off, an turned it back on only to hear more *pop* & *crackle*. Doesn't turn on anymore at all Also, it smelled real purty NOT.. |

see if you can find a tech that does free or cheap quotes. Even if he's cheap/free because he charges the earth it doesn't really matter just ask him to take a look & see if he can tell what's wrong with it. If it's something small it may be worth going & getting it fixed. You could always take it appart yourself & have a look to see if you can see any burned stuff. Just don't touch the screen or anything for that matter, a great deal of electrical charge can remain in there for ages even after you unplug it.

$85 isn't what I call a cheap quote
Plus, I have this (semi) working Dell 21" that I would rather spend the cash on. I hear what your saying tho, mebe down the track I will get it looked at. |
