Awww yeah !!Been waiting for this!
AlienWare Australia

While I've heard some bad reports of service/support from US users, I'm hopefull that this was only because the people who had issues with em were newbs as there are more than a few citing praise for these babies!

PCI Express in a laptop! Hell yeah =)

Yes, I'll build my own high end desktop anyday, but I'm after a laptop with GRUNT (not the weedy version that ships with QGL ) heh j/k Sorry Grunt - had to be said =) an last time I checked, getting a custom built machine like that wasn't easy

Laptop I've speced out comes in close to $6000 (plus additional 21" LCD with 16ms response)

Salary sacrifice cuts this down to something somewhat affordable

A while ago I was looking into tablet PCs and wanted to find something reasonably priced. I discovered Clevo who make "barebones laptops" and after a bit of research found that Alienware laptops are clevos.

They are available in australia through Altech and are probably worth looking into if you want to save a few dollars off an alienware laptop.

What's all the hype about? I'm looking at these systems and they don't really stand out....maybe it is the case or something....

Quoted for its amazing accuracy, I always thought only americans were stupid enough to pay a massive surcharge for a flash case.

I know a few people with high incoms and the want for cool looking cases and whatnot. These people have high income because they dont have the time to make their own custom cases ;D

Hmm, have to check that out some more. Just looking at the Altec site now an none of those systems have the specs of the alienware laptps. I'll have to contact em an see if they will customise one similar to a tricked out Area51-M.
Thanks for the headsup dude.

yeah, I'd guess they probably don't get the particular models that alienware use, I'm sure you could find a sauce (sic) for them if you looked.

The ailenware lappy's look pretty uber - and I will be replacing my current one in the next 12 months; so I reckon its awesome that they're finally in oz.

The only problem is that their screen res' for the lappys tops out at 1680*1050 - I've grown attatched to the extra info my dell's 1900*1200 lets me show... oh well...

look, basically alienware saw that there was a large industry in america for ricing cars, and assumed the same for pc's

They see half the aussies in aus have body kits on their hsv, so they realised we are pretty much just another income source waiting for a new spoiler on our laptop!

I still think its cheaper then harvey norman. lol

Edit: jesus i can spend 5000 on a pos there xD overpriced doesnt really cut it... o_o;;

Honestly noobs support this industry, so im glad its there, you can laugh silently as some 13yo shows off his pc to you and you see the crappy alien badge =p

xD loffl

i'd be interested in just buying a case from them. I know in the US they won't do this because it will "dilute the brand" but here in aus i think i just need to find the right person to slip a 20 to :)

The other day a work mate ordered the Aviator EX7, including postage from the US and aussies taxes it was AU$5500. But he maxed it out taking the 2 gig option, 2 harddrives and 8x dual layer burner.

First thing he did was install HL2 and it runs like a dream with everything maxed out in native resolution (16xx X 10xx - whatever widescreen is).

I flicked it to him and he had a quick look at the site, recons that ordering Hypersonic from the US + AU taxes is still cheaper than equivalent machines from Alienware Australia.
