ahahahh @ linkin park bien commercia I'm pretty sure the definiton of 'commercial' for a band is 'Your record label uses paid placement for your singles on Austereo and Clear Channel'. |

as far as i know, linkin park are a sure bet to be playing.
spraynwipe: as for not getting a "commercial" act to play, i think you will find that festivals over the past few years have indeed been getting one or two acts who have had significant commercial success to perform. for example, oasis at last year's livid. |

while i agree with you that they are a great band (and their performance at livid last year was my highlight of the day) personal taste was not the essence of this debate :) it was about whether acts who are perceived as being "commercial" rather than "alternative" will be included in the line up at touring musical festivals such as livid and big day out.

Me First are a cool band but the only problem with their covers are that they only go for like 2 minutes each.
8-) I've got their latest album and it goes for about 30 minutes. You would feel ripped if you forked out $30 for it. |

I could understand that being unbelievable because of all the high profile members. But im mates with trent from ods, he told me...so i think it should be right
Which makes me think that it would be worth their while to bring out NOFX and Lagwagon at the same time.... I hope so! |

R-C-P You can have commercial success without being a 'commercial' band. Radiohead, for example. I don't think Oasis' label ever paid money to place their songs. Popular != Commercial |

whats the story morning glory released had something like 5 or 6 singles released from the album, the last of which was over a year after the album release date. i think you will find their record label did indeed have a lot of sway over the media ;)
as for your popular=commercial definition, i disagree. however, its a conversation that has been replayed a thousand times, and i can't be stuffed having to go through the motions again. |
