Please note the status of the next QGL event has been changed on the front page of the QGL site to 'unknown'. ANZ Stadium have contacted us and informed us that due to some maintenance and construction they have scheduled for the next six months, they are currently unable to guarantee us any dates on which we can safely run events.

As a result, we are currently looking at alternate venues. The first on the list is the Sleeman Sports Complex out at Chandler, which we'll be investigating this week.

We will be trying to maintain the same date regardless of the venue, but as yet we are unable to confirm the date until we're satisfied about the venue.

Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused to anybody. It is a hassle for us too, because it means adapting to a new venue when we don't particularly want to due to other things that might be going on around the same time. Anyway, stay tuned for updates; as soon as we've got a venue and a date, we'll publish it on this very site.

It'd be great if you could organise it on a date after the weekend of the 28th/29th as there is still uni exams going on on that saturday.

hunter you are quite foolish... Sleeman and Anz are reachable by a number of MAJOR TRAFFIC ROUTES, namely cleverland road and the freeway ffs.. it is not *that* hard to get to these venues, god knows the Broncos do it, grant hackett even made it to sleeman to swim on more then one occasion, they by no means are the *brightest* indivdiuals in the country :p So for someone of your great intellect and wisdom (giggle) I find it funny that you seem unable to make it to the venues if you wanted to...

but we all know you're just searching for another excuse.. The cake, you've still got it from before...

Aslong as the venue is a larger one, chances are it won't be in some tucked away street hiding from the world, that being said go back to yeronga :p

My local league's club is supposed to be able to hold ~450 people in it's auditorium and has a big screen projector already built in. It was only built about 2 years ago too so its uber modern.

Think about it... league's club / pub + LAN = lannage + after hours fun! When the LAN finishes for the night, head on over to the pub and have a few.

f***, have it at my old high school, they got a new hall, prolly can hold around 500, and its in mt gravatt. that would be the bomb. 5 mins drive from anz stadium.

EDIT: They also have chairs, so all you will need to hire is tables or whatever else excluding chairs.

Actually Khel they were referring to the number of tables / chairs it has available for functions. Apparently it can hold way more people if you supply your own stuff.

Located in the heart of the city, Brisbane City Hall is a unique heritage-listed venue. It features world-class facilities suitable for corporate, social and community functions.

Another consideration would be access to the building for people. I'm imagining 400 nerds sitting in King George Square with their PCs having carried them from the Myer centre ;)

But really, do you know if they have parking close enough to allow people to bring their gear in?

City hall is too small, and would probably cost a fortune. When function places say "room for 400", they do mean "room for 400 with tables and chairs". But if you think about it, they'd fit people on both sides of a table, and people would be sitting closer together than they would be at a LAN. I'd say you still need to at least double that value.

As a side note, we'd need roughtly 1000 square metres. ANZ is roughly 950.

How about those people who suggested venues on the Northside (Hunter and Capt0 maybe someone else...) actually be a little proactive and find out (a) if they're available and (b) what it will cost. Then you can let the QGL Admins know and they can make a more educated decision.

Personally, I'd prefer to see it on the northside and I'd be happy to actually come and help set it up if it was out this way. And I'd even be willing to stay and help pack up. Unlike at ANZ or even worse - chandler where I'd still have over an hour drive before I got home.
