Got myself a copy of the E3 DVD yesterday, and its a damn good watch incidentally. Has trailers/footage of pretty much all the big name titles that were there, and some of them (such as Final Fantasy X) are pure j0raj0r lovin. But, after seeing it in action, I can now officially say, yes, the gheymecube is indeed very gay. On the DVD they went through pretty much every title I've seen discussed here. There was a large segment on luigi's mansion, and as if that doesn't look like the most boring game ever. Walk into a room... shine your flashlight at a ghost... suck it up with a vacuum cleaner... then pick up the coins it leaves behinds. Do the coins actually do anything? Apparently not. When the guy demoing it was asked the same question his answer was "Well... you collect them... and they're there to be collected... thats really it". Rivetting stuff people! The much touted Rogue Squadron. Well, I was at least under the impression it was a sequel to the Rogue Squadron that was on PC a few years ago. From what I saw though, nope, its the same game just revised. Same lovely linear gameplay. Same "done it a hundred times before" storyline. Same button bashing boredom. I was bored by rogue squadron on the PC within a day, so I can't see this one being all that much better. Graphically it looked good, but really people, its nothing special and it didn't really look any better than other games I've seen that are already out (Starfighter on the PS2 for example). Pikmin? Well... wtf?!? Thats one screwed up game. All it had was a trailer, showing the gameplay and stuff, but it looks like typical japanese wacky crap. Some people may really get into this sort of thing, I just found it laughably homosexual. You have to rescue these little flower people (who require tender loving care and water to grow apparently), who then follow you round in herds. From what I can gather you then use your little herds of flower people to kill big nasty bugs and insects and put them into weird beaming machines that turn the corpse into points. Another game which you might hire for a day, at best, have a good laugh at its stupidity, then send it back. Super Smash Brothers? (or as I like to call it, Super Plumber Brothers Kart Smash Party) Well, still I remain very unimpressed. Its powerstone 2 people, with all your favourite faggy little nintendo characters. While it would be fun to beat the living crap out of various pokemon, I can't see myself getting too much enjoyment out of this either. The only thing that did grab my attention was the interesting level design. One of the levels had you fighting on the back of the fighter from Star Fox while it was streaking over a city. That did, admitedly look pretty cool. Wave Race... this game actually did impress me and looks quite entertaining. Which is suprising, cos this is one I had totally written off as a bad attempt to revive a failed N64 game and make it a Gamecube launch title. This game actually looked quite fun, and is so far, the only thing that is keeping me from writing the cube off entirely. The graphics were very nice, the sense of speed was awesome, and the animations on the riders were very fluid and lifelife. Also, the tricks looked very cool and more than once, even gave me a bit of laugh (some of them are pretty outrageous). I guess the last two worth mentioning are that Star Fox adventure game and the latest installment on Donkey Kong racing. First off, I'd like to see some gameplay footage of Donkey Kong racing, all I've seen so far is the pre-rendered intro movie. I've seen people try to pass some of that video off as gameplay footage, but you know its not. Not that I'm a big fan of the cutesy racing games anyway, but it would be nice to see some actual gameplay footage. And Star Fox adventures? Didn't look too bad I guess. Rather generic and rather Phantasy Star-ish in its look, but I suppose it could be one that at least has a bit of lastability. All in all I remain very un-excited about the impending gamecube launch, and very unimpressed by the launch titles. 1 or 2 did stand out as something that may be worth playing, but worth buying a gamecube for when there is so many awesome alternatives that dont involve me paying another $500 for a console? no way. |

but it looks like typical japanese wacky crap And at that point, your whole argument fell apart... I'd bet good money that Luigi's Mansion is part of the Mario title being announced at Spaceworld. Plus, I noticed you convieniently ignored Metroid, Eternal Darkness, yada yada yada (or maybe that's on the DVD) If you're looking for American-centric games, you should have looked at, say, the EA booth, where they had SSX Tricky running on a 'Cube. Plus, Nintendo's "US-centric" titles weren't announced at E3. Zelda and Mario (and others) are going to be announced at SpaceWorld in August. Personally, I like wacky Japanese games. Hell, I bought Kuru Kuru Kururin for the GBA instead of F-Zero or Castlevania. Which DVD was this? The one from Lik-Sang? What's the quality like? I wouldn't mind nabbing a copy |

Spray: its by NextGeneration videos, called "The future of video games" or some other suitably melodramatic title, tis pretty good. Eternal Darkness and Metroid looked ok, but they weren't covered in much detail, so I didn't get much of a look at them. SSX wasn't covered at all :( In comparision to the PS2 section of the DVD though, the Gamecube looks about third for me. The most impressive stuff by far looked to be on PS2, and even X-Box had a few titles (most that I hadn't even heard of) that amazed me. X-Box and Gamecube would probably more likely be tied for second, but I just dont like Nintendo and its style (by style, you know what I mean, wacky japanese crap), so it ends up ranking lower for me. Actually, the HALO demo on the DVD managed to rekindle my interest in the game. It actually looked pretty good, so its been put back at the top of my list as a game worth waiting for now. |

Oh dear.....time to rebut everything. Lugis Mansion.....There is alot to this game that hasn't been shown and this has been mentioned many times before. If you haven't guessed Nintendo likes to keep MANY secrets, its not like Sony and Microsoft showing everything as soon as they can. This game is almost a puzzle game, its not as simple as you describe, you actually will have to think to capture the ghosts. Rogue Squadron. Well its an arcade like flight sim game. Some people like the thrill of blasting away tie fighters and having a go and the Death Star Trenchrun others don't....To me it looks like fun, I LOVE starwars(episode 1 excluded) and this looks great, fast and fun...the way consoles should be. Pikmin....Its a RTS game, and it looks like its going to be the FIRST RTS game on a console that will actually play well omfg!! I thought that it looked crap at first as well, but after I read some more stuff about it and saw some new movies I changed my mind. Super Smash Brothers. HOw can you not like this game!! Seriously its fantastic!! THe N64 version was brilliant, get 4 friends over(if you have that many) and its a blast. I admit the GCN version doesn't look like it offers that much more, just more single player levels, more multiplayer levels and some more characters, but thats enough for me...reason enough to buy 4 control pads...and why wouldnt' you want to beat the living crap out of various Pokemon? Donkey Kong Racing, its Mario kart but made by rare..really thats the difference...by the pre-rendered footage I assume you will be able to go underwater this time which shall be fun. The GCN is going to have a FAR better launch than the X-box these holidays....I would be more worried about Poor Bill Gates...Nintendo have it covered in my opinion, lots of great quality games across almost every genre. Oh also HALO is s*** house....unless it actually launches with multiplayer support its going to be crap, this game is over hyped and over-rated...Daikatania anyone? One the PC it would be good with INTERNET play but we know the X-Box version isn't going to have that now don't we. |

Actually, the HALO demo on the DVD managed to rekindle my interest in the game From what I heard from a friend who played it first hand, it's not suited for a controller. Plus, the dodgy framerates of 5fps if that. |

Yeah, the controller could be a real bad part. I've never been much of a fan of FPS on consoles because the functions of a mouse/keyboard never seem to map well to a controller. I've played a few on PS2 which seem to work rather well, but yeah, the X-Box controller doesn't seem suited to it. All I'm going by is the 10 - 15 minutes or so gameplay footage I've watched, and from that, it looks like it should be pretty good (control issues aside). I did notice some chunking and slow down in parts, but seeing as Microsoft reckon they were running development versions of the consoles (or whatever their excuse was), I think you could reasonably expect the final product to not have those problems. At the moment, the controller is all that is putting me off. The graphics look awesome, the levels look awesome, the action looks intense, the physics look good, the AI is pretty impressive, it all seems to come together into a pretty suave looking package. Oh, and Tim, HALO is not about multiplayer deathmatch, its a single player game with a very deep and involving plot and a decent amount of strategy worked into things. To be honest I think it looks far more promising than the hundred other FPS games everyone seems to be churning out lately. If the annoying control problems can be fixed and the performance can be improved for release, I can see it being positively awesome. |

I'd buy the PC version of Halo, it has multiplayer, no control issues, and you could upgrade your PC pretty well for the price of an XBox. |

Yes, but most of Nintendo's titles don't come to the PC. There's too many ports of games on the PC on the XBox, several exclusives, and all the other titles you can get for the PS2 or GameCube. |

It's not even an opinion,it's drivelling s***. What kind of f***tard bases his opinions on what games are gonna be like just from watching video footage?Sure, some games like GT3 look awesome and play awesome but to judge a game on what it looks like is pretty f***ing stupid, after all,all I've read on games sites is nothing but praise for Gamecube, from developers, and reviewers who have actually PLAYED the games. After you've actually played the games khel, only then will your opinions maybe mean something |

Oh, sorry, yeah, you're right, how stupid of me. Instead of forming my opinions on the games based on the best information available to me first hand (ie, movies of the gameplay), I'll base my opinions on what everyone else says, because thats obviously much more reliable. I'm glad you're around to help me realise these things! |

Everyone has their own opinions on whatever info at hand. If you get a demo of a game for example, most of the time you can tell whether its crap or not within about 15 mins. Khel is just taking information from mvoies from E3 and basing opinions and thoughts on that. Fair enough IMO. |

*laughs at this entire thread* it should have just stopped at khel's post on nintendo being gay, but nooooooo Each and every one of you little tryhards have to put in your two cents. I for one respect khel's opinion on consoles, because he's a console monkey, period. I, however, won't be taking much notice of the drivel that comes afterwards because you all don't have a f***ing clue and manage to actually eke out an argument from 4 words khel said. Congratu-f***ing-lations, you are the world's biggest whiners... those who can bitch about the most innocuous comments and say it discredits his entire post. Nice one lamers, get a life |

rcsgd, yes, BUT Khel has a point. Nintendo's past games have always looked "good/great" but have never seem to play as good. Both Khel and i know that the PS2 does not do this. ALL the games out for it so far PLAY HOW THEY LOOK. They are fan f***ing tastic. Its just Khel's taste is not "kiddy" games etc. And like him i am sick of the Pokemon Franchise. And the Plumber one. Sure having a Mario platform game is cool. And so is a Kart one. But must that lil fat c*** be in everything ie tennis games etc etc. ARGH Plumber nightmares. Anyhoo, the GCN has alot to make up for, Its gotta apologise for the N64 AND make an impression for itself. as the PS2 just laughs and dominates the Market. Anyway. we'll just wait and see |

The SNES had just as many franchise games, but you never noticed them cause nearly every third party made games for the SNES. This wasn't the case with the N64, and without third party titles the franchises stood out. They are going to remedy this with the GameCube though, as they've made it the easiest platform to develop for. The franchises don't stand out as much if you look at any game list for the GCN. |

Khel is mostly right. Luigi's Mansion looks like s***, pikmin wont achieve popularity cos its about little flower-people, but again nintendo has a chance to redeem itself at spaceworld, and again it'll prolly f*** it up. Wait for spaceworld before you pass judgement though. I can't understand how people who have played the last nine final fantasies, chrono trigger\cross, secret of mana/2/evermore and countless other square games that have been baserd on fundamentally the same system, can cope with another shoved down their mouth but whatever floats your boat. I like the GBA, but I don't like the fact there trying to sell me castlevania/KKK for almost half the price of the system especially when half the games on GBA are ports. My point is that it is all opinion. Objectivity is something this bored severly lacks. Because you don't like it doesn't mean countless other people won't. Writing off a system on a bit of video footage is just stupid and dismissing someone else's opinions (unless they're hunter's) is just as stupid. |

Like has already been mentioned though, this board is for people's opinions, and opinions dont necessarily need to be objective (thats why they're opinions). I'm not writing anything off, all I'm saying is as of yet I remain severely unimpressed by Nintendo and its Gamecube. People accuse me of forming opinions based on a small amount of info, well aren't the people claiming the Gamecube to be the biggest thing ever making their opinions based on similar limited amounts of information? And just for the record, I remain very unimpressed by the X-Box too. Both of them have their work cut out for them as far as I'm concerned. |

If this board had a little objectivity every thread would not degenerate into a name-calling contest, I mean look how you have been flamed Khel for minor, non-flattering remarks about the GC. People shouldn't be so dogamtic and open their minds to other people's points of view. |

Khel, if you're merely unimpressed with what you've seen of the system, why not just say that? And why not hold your comments till you have something more solid to go by? Why not wait until you've played the games? I'm not saying the GameCube will be great, and I'm not saying it'll be a total failure either, I'm saying wait on it. |

umm... rcsgsdfsds, thats exactly what I did say. A quote from my original post. All in all I remain very un-excited about the impending gamecube launch, and very unimpressed by the launch titles. Pretty amazing that whole cut and paste thing huh? So what you're saying is that its ok to say good things about the Gamecube before its released and before we've played the games, but its not ok to say bad things? Ohhh... now I understand. (???) |
