From natslovR: The Democrats have sided with the Government in regards to ammendments to the Copyright Act to allow parallel importation of software. To get the Democrats to agree to these measures to stop software import companies abusing their monopoly powers the government had to do some reworking of the ammendmant and remove the book publishing industry from the changes. "The Government has put forward amendments that would make it easier to prove ownership of software copyright, has provided for additional damages for flagrant copyright violation, and has increased the jurisdiction of the Federal Magistrates Service with regard to copyright matters."The legislation should be/(have been) voted on by parliament tonight /(last night).
