Wow, i could finish this post then and there, pretty much sums it up. Seriously though, think of it, a bunch of NERDS sitting in the same room with a whole room full of computers. Exciting s***!!!! I must admit i havn't been to one myself, but i can imagine it. I live with my sister and we both have semi nerdy boyfriends who attend them pretty often. My sister actually came up with a good one "Computer Nerd Conventions". And i have to say, i think that describes the atmosphere pretty well dont you?

I know, I know i should try it myself and see what they're about, but i dont really want to listen to nerds saying "my ram is bigger then your ram", yeh ok your WHAT?? It sounds like you are referring to how big your dicks are, but i'm sure if you'se had big dicks to start of with, then you'se would be out using them instead of making love to your comuters. Which i'm sure if you COULD you WOULD.

And wow, i was just informed by my BF, what the last topic of debate was at a LAN. Something about the human eye only seeing about 30fps , blah blah blah. Exciting s*** here. All i can say is "f***, i'm dropping all my plans and attending the next LAN"

So we go to lans you know little to nothing of what we do the other 29 days a month.
yes there are some people that attend qgl that i try to distance myself from as much as possible but most of em are nice people.

Hmm yeah i got to LANS and i gotta admit I WOULD rather tell a new girlfriend that i was going to the footy than to a LAN. Never the less they can be fun, albeit time consuming and dont really add much to your career prospects as a rule. Since i got cable i dont go to them any more, but they are a good place to pirate software if your into that kind of thing (piracy = baaaaaddd)

I'll just add one thing: LANs are far more sociable (for those who want to be) than playing on the net for hours on end...

Despite what people think, I think its pretty erroneous to call LAN gamers 'nerds'. For starters, they've all made an effort to go out and do something sociable - gathering together in numbers to play games. You get to meet new people, meet people you've only ever talked to online, and have like 12-24 hours of fun doing what you enjoy doing.

I don't really consider that nerdish behaviour. In fact, most of the guys I know that go to the QGL LANs are far from what I would describe as nerds. A lot of them have nothing to do with computers outside of LANning - a lot of them lead active sporting and social lives outside of a computer screen.

What do you do with your spare time? I've done a lot of different things with mine over the past few years, ranging from playing sports, going out, etc, etc. I'd much (much) much rather attend a LAN than go to the football these days - something about being surrounded by teenaged boys and girls that go there because they consider it a "social thing to do" and then don't watch any of the football really annoys me.

What else is social and non-nerdy?

Additionally, its weird hearing these sorts of opinions here - computer gaming is obviously a male-dominated thing, probably cuz there's not a lot of chicks that like the "nerd" tag that goes along with such an event.

Additionally, I've hung out with other groups of people before, and I can say with certainty that I'd much rather hang out with people that play LAN games than a bunch of sporting jocks or whatever.

Its good to get some female action on this board, but its a pity to see that its so one-sided and from such a narrow-minded perspective.
