thresh agrees that you dont need more than 30fps in a game to play to your potential. i agree. i suppose youll now try to claim that thresh is a s*** player with no clue.....

Nah - thats bulls***. I read like all the hardware and game articles at Firingsquad and they ALWAYS say that the serious Quakers and general FPS players never settle for anything under 100 fps all the time. Most of them play in 640x480 on like P3 700's and stuff so the are mega fast.
I'm sure they don't do this cos it looks good....

I spoke to thresh last night on this issue & he quite clearly stated :

did you read those articles anarot? according to them you cant gedect over 72, so if that is correct then anyone wanting 100+ is talkin out their arse if they reckon they can tell the difference. and i know that you are one of the most stupid people about frame rates reckosning you can tell up to a rediculous number

did YOU read those articles?

"I refuse to believe that there's a "reasonable" limit to what the human eye can see. Our rough estimates are only based on what we've experienced, so saying "200 fps is a limit" is completely unfounded imo. Until you reach a point where frames are flashing by faster than the light can travel to your eyes, or more reasonably, faster than the electrical impulses can reach your brain, then let's talk about limits. However, I think that a person accustomed to watching a 500fps screen is going to notice right away when that drops down to 250fps. "

yeah i read them, that part about no limit at all was simply that one guys opinion, and he stated taht at the beggining

ARRRRRGGGGGGGGG

that guy obviously knew what he was talking about not just his opinion

he backed up his arguements with facts what the hell is so hard about accepting the fact that the brain is not a redundant lump of crap just yet

just a little food for thought

consider this

a giant
this giant is exactly the same as a human
his is just a f*** load bigger
he is lying in the atlantic with his head at brighton in england and his feet in the gulf of mexico
some sharks start to nibble at his feet

now according to theory the nerve impluse that the sharks were eating his feet would take about three weeks to reach his brain. But humans do not react this slowly there is something else (unexplained at the moment) working with in the human mind that is speeding up human reflexes to a level that is fairly difficult to measure.

now before you think holy s*** this guy is whacked

that story was tolded to me by a professor in AI at Griffith Unversity
btw he got his phd at oxford so dont write him off

The human Brain is a increadable piece of hardware and it cant be explained fully by science so before you go spouting crap "the human eye cant see more then 30 fps" think about the brain
it is capable of far more then your giving it credit for

whats this 3 weeks thing about?
PornoPete

given the speed at which nerves transmit information it would take three weeks for the pain of the sharks to reach the giants brain. However humans have an unknown process that speeds up the reaction time.

Hey, Pete, I think I may have been in that lecture. I did AI at Griffith as well and the story was sounding familiar. Was it Conceptual Foundations of AI? I did that in '97.

yeah the brain is an impressive thing, the human body however is not. considering the number of animals who's reflex's totally dwarf our own.

um whatever

look live your world where the human body is drealy average beside a computer
if you cant react fast enough to warrent more then 30 fps why play on a machine that pulls 72
Barak

well i can react fast enough to be really good at cs, better than most

and why have such a good computer? becasue i dont just use this for games, im an animation student i need a computer that will be good for rendering. does that answer your question?
PornoPete

um no

you just said that you need a computer that can render things well

i really dont think that you upgraded soly because you need a good computer for uni when you play games

man dont lie like that its very transparent
Barak

if i had had a computer taht gave me a minimum of 30fps i woudl not have upgraded for the purpose of games

but if you wish to check my enrolement at QCA and what course im doing youll see that im not lying and that i do infact require a better computer

plus i didn't pay for it

i dont give a s*** if your a uni student or if you a japanese gigalo

your lying about the reason that you upgraded

you didnt upgrade for uni alone
Barak
Posts: 229

no of course not
but remember that i had 5fps in certain cs situations....5!!!!!!
PornoPete

yes but you said you upgraded your computer for uni not becuase you needed more frames

im not the one who is clouded
Barak

"why play on a machine that pulls 72"

that's why i have a beast computer that will do over 72..for uni.

if i only wanted my computer for games i would have upgraded to a celeron400 or somehting and kept my old vid card etc..
but to do my animation i required a soft image compatible video card for rendering, hence the geforce, i also need tv in and out cause i do video capture, workign with video capture and editing requires a fast computer to do withou dropping too many frames and so that you can generally work without big pauses.

that explanation enough for you? i think you are in no postion to call me aliar when im talking about my own situation taht you woudl have no clue about, unless of course your just trying to stir me up in which case leaaave it out of teh forum and come meet me in person.

look im saying that you upgrading for education reason alone is a lie

you cant tell me and expect me to beleave that the "unexpected gaming benefits" had no bearing on your decision
Barak

of course, i was desperate for a new com, puter casue cs ran so s***, but only desperate for a machine that would do at least 30fps
the beasty one i have is as good as it is so that i dont have to upgrade again next year for 3d animation

well your video capture requirements explains your 30 fps is enough attitude.
However i still beleive your lying cause you dont need a geoforce to do that for you :P
And if you think there is no difference between 30 and 60 fps then try playing with /com_maxfps
set it to 30 then 60 and eat your words
OK. ioWNz

30 fps is better the 60
