CD Projekt RED has revealed it is currently in the process of developing a full remake of the original The Witcher from 2007. The studio has also revealed the project is being built from "the ground up" using Unreal Engine 5 and will employ the same toolset being developed for the previously revealed new Witcher trilogy. The Witcher Remake, formerly known as project Canis Majoris is being developed by Fool's Theory, an RPG sepcialist studio and also features a number of CDPR veterans from The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. “The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”No further information about the remake was revealed, but burning questions arise such as will this "from the ground up" venture be open-world and could this lead to a similar fate for The Witcher 2 down the track? Among many, many others. Stay tuned for more as it becomes available. |

Man crazy timing as I'm currently replaying Witcher 1 right now after like 7 years. I just wanted to replay the first 2 games in preparation for the next gen patch for Witcher 3 which should be coming in the next couple months. It has to be destiny! Which is very fitting for the Witcher lol And yeah this remake is much needed. Playing it now, my biggest issue with it isn't actually the combat (which is what turns most people off) but the constant back tracking is brutal. I've downloaded a +50% movement speed mod which is almost essential. But the setting and atmosphere of the game is still fantastic. |

Hadn't heard about a next gen Witcher 3 patch, sounds cool. Played the main game but only scratched the surface of the expansion packs (which already looked great). |

This is great news, maybe I get to buy them all again and still not play through them. But seriously, I look forward to the updates and maybe doing 1-2-3 clean into 4? |

Honestly you should finish the expansions once the next gen update comes out. Hearts of Stone has one of the best villain storylines and Blood and Wine is basically a whole game on its own and gives the perfect send off to Geralt. |

Blood and Wine is basically a whole game on its own and gives the perfect send off to GeraltI said it in the review of that expansion, Murf, but I reckon the vampire lore that is the spine of that entire narrative is among the best in vampiric history across all media. It became so compelling I found myself having to force my hand off the main story just so I could achieve 100% completion. Usually that's the other way around! |
