EA and Mythic have released a new trailer for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning showing some in-game action from their upcoming MMO. War is everywhere in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), the new MMORPG from the creators of Dark Age of Camelot. Based on Games Workshop's popular Warhammer fantasy war game, WAR features next generation Realm vs. Realm (RvR) game play that will immerse players in a world of perpetual conflict for years to come. It's no secret that much of Blizzard's Warcraft fundamentals are derived from Warhammer Lore. How does everyone think Age of Reckoning will fare in a space so dominated by the insanely popular World of Warcraft? |

The music is almost as annoying as the new Jacki Chan & Jet Li ad that appears everytime I refresh QGL.

The game looks f***ING awful. I really hope they work on the graphics before release.
I mean, graphics don't make a game and all that but when you look at the same attack animations day after day after day, and they all look as lame as those ones do... I just don't see how you could ever really enjoy playing. edit: Those zones in the video look much nicer than anything I have seen so far. I still stand by what I said though - all the gameplay stuff I have seen has had really horrible attack animations. last edited by qmass at 16:43:22 17/Jul/08 |

It bears an awful resemblance to it's dominating rival WoW (and I honestly don't think the MMO king can be toppled by what I just saw). But a beta is a beta, and every MMO on the market has been improved tenfold from their original beta release (see eve online). So for those that are waiting for WAR to strap rockets to WoW's throne, there's still hope. But I have a tingly feeling this would just be an uglier looking version of Vanguard. |

I just got invited into the closed beta but the client is 8.6gig :/. Wish the invite had been sent to me at the start and not the end of holidays.

the gameplay more than makes up for the graphics. most of the footage is old as well.

Jabroney, how do you pause the download/where are you downloading it from? Wish there was a torrent around.

I don't equate stylised, lower poly models with being "less pretty" than games which try to emulate realism, but in either case: the models do need to animate well to give them a sense of weight and presence in the world. I feel that this is going to be the problem for me with this title. If characters bob along in a clunky way and show only a few animation frames in their actions, they just won't look right. It doesn't matter how photorealistic or cartoon-like they appear, if simple things like footsteps not matching their position on the ground or weapons appearing to have little weight when the character swings them, then it sticks right out of place. In my humble opinion, one of the main reasons we play these games is to have a character that looks good and you can bond with (cause you're usually looking at the same arse for many many hours on end) - I don't wanna look at some robotic machine man with rollerskates on his feet. Say what you want about WoW, but you have to admit, Blizzard totally nailed this aspect in their character design (except their male Humans :P). For me, it's by this yardstick that I measure how many hours i'm likely to spend growing an avatar. WAR doesn't need to topple WoW to be totally awesome and I really don't care if it's cell-shaded, hand-drawn or modelled from photos of real dead barbarians. |

Warhammer Online is a new massively multiplayer online computer game that allows players to take on the role of outlaws and mercenary adventurers within a grim and gritty realisation of Games Workshop So what....you can't start as any of the races of Warhammer? (Ie like in WoW where each race starts in their home town etc) Most probably have the same starting place etc, but just choose a different race that you are decended from....sounds lame. And looks lame also. Very WoWish. |

I don't really care about the graphics, I just care about whether or not it has decent methods of levelling up and most importantly, what the pvp is like. mythic got pvp right in daoc, I just hope they don't gay it up like wow in this game

hears how they should do warhammer, good fkn world pvp, arena system not which isn't riddled with RNG, classes that actually take skill to play so the skill cap is higher.
and doesn't pull an AOC and blow balls. (not that i even played just all my mates quit) |

From the trailers, screenshots etc I've seen so far, it just looks bland. So does WoW though, so maybe it will have some success, who knows?

Well iv been in the beta for a bit and the people that are hating on warhammer online are just mad that they are not playing it. BETA means not finnished and still has work to be done, but iv played in nearly every MMO in the last 8 years (yes WoW) and i have to say, this game is by far the best so far, most beta MMO's dont have the graphic options turned on in beta because they are still fixing them, so most things are basic but even the basic graphics of warhammer is still really nice. even the mighty WoW (i dont think its mighty) was in way worse shape then warhammer is and they still releasd it!. |

Well iv been in the beta for a bit and the people that are hating on warhammer online are just mad that they are not playing it. Oh damn, you caught me. It seems the gig is up! most beta MMO's dont have the graphic options turned on in beta because they are still fixing them Even if this odd statement were true, I'm sure they would have turned all the graphics right up to make it look good for the e3 trailer, which is what this thread is actually about. But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you say the basic graphics of warhammer online look really nice, I say they're pants. Lets agree to disagree. |

Hmm, I don't see anything wrong with the visuals. I really like that style of artwork now after playing WoW plus it looks so much better than that plasticy look a lot of games have these days.

The fact that they dropped a crap load of content only a few months before release doesn't seem to matter??!?

The fact that they dropped a crap load of content only a few months before release doesn't seem to matter??!? You should read this: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm?FEATURE=2041&BHCP=1&GAME=239&PAGE=1&bhcp=1 “We’ve been down that path before and we’ve seen other companies go down the exact same path. We’re not going down that path. We’ve launched too many other MMOs and seen too many other guys go ‘it’s not quality, it’s quantity’… Bad move, especially in an RvR game.” 4 Classes (so that leaves 20 classes left)and 4 capitals were cut but I think they gave good reasons. However they weren't cut for ever, just for now. It seems like they want a good game complete game for launch and not a half done one like Hellgate. Also Penny arcade had a comic about it: http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2008/20080714.jpg last edited by sif greazy at 22:50:52 18/Jul/08 |

ok boba where does it say here that this was released for E3?Er, it's in the heading of both the pages linked where you can stream and watch it and in the filename of the downloadable version. No need for unpleasantries. |

Sounds like you've read into the PR spin pretty well their Greazy. Personally, a company with so much 'experience' should be able to have a decent project/development plan so they don't need to drop content to make a launch. Sure, it's not the end of the world, but it is concerning.

i think if it was solely up to mythic they would have delayed. but since they have gw and ea behind them i think they were probably forced to drop some content for now so that they could get the game out this year. i just hope to god they arent stupid enough to charge for the content once its done.

After playing in the closed beta for a few months, about the only problems they going to have is gold farming spamming in a few weeks and if the server can handle the load at launch. Bugs in the game are very little and no ones going to be happy with the balance anyway, cos unless they cant 1 shot everything and everyone they are not going to be happy. |

hey just wondering if anyone has completed downloading the beta yet? I don't wanna blow my cap out downloading 8gig, so if someone has finished downloading it, and wants to graciously burn it for me and send it over i'd be much obliged.

I'll play it, Mythic earn't my dollar with good work in DAOC.
I think the class / realm balance wasn't bad, just server population inbalances that really hurt the RVR and the fact most servers were dead our playtime. With Aussie servers and the fact everyones kinda over wow (Which was a good game), it should do ok imho. |
